I used to belong to the Ford Granada club and we had a similar thing for each of the regions we had. It was done on a voluntary basis and the rescuee would pay the rescuer just petrol money and any other out of pocket expenses (which is only fair!).
The only trouble is that it could end up as just one or two people doing the favours, as not all of us have a tranny van or motorbike trailer, so possibly it could be done on a rota basis? or even the volunteers may be just happy to do it!
Funny though innit as I didn't even think to phone the AA! Mind you that fella Jed/Ted was there in a couple on minutes so it all went out of my head to do that!

Not sure about the 'tash, it was early morning and grim outside. All I know is he had a tattoo of a lion/pussy cat on his left hand (it was very faded!) and a REALLY heavy geordie accent and he didn't stop talking, only I couldn't understand a word!!, so I just kept on saying, Yeah, Nah, Really? Erm dunno!
Proper Geezer though. Deserves a good pint if I ever see him around
