What's the general feeling on drop bars. Are they just for show? Do they really help? Can they be more trouble than they're worth in event of a drop or accident? will I be spoiling the look? You guys tell it how it is, so please advise??? |

| Re: Drop Bars - Yes or No ??????
H&P Assume you mean crash bars, these all come with a disclaimer sticker that says soemthing to the effect that they will do nothing in the event of a high speed off. The only time they may be of some use will be if you drop the bike whilst stationary or at a very low speed crash and then you face the minor risk of having the frame bent at the points where the crash bars attach. I have them fitted front and back to my shovel FLH and fortuantely, to date, have not had to rely on them in any means. They are good place to hang your evil road spirit warning bell from, giving a bit of confidenvce when humping the bike around a parking lot as well as giving the FL range the authentic type of look. Hope this is of a bit of help. Simon

Don't particularly like the look of them, but they were invaluable at saving shiny bits when my bike was dropped, by person, who shall remain nameless, but he doesn't have mrs in front of his name so it's a yes from me Going for a lay down now as I don't usually do serious/sensible/informative/cultural or any other non-b**lox type response

Thanks for all that It's a sportster, so I'll have to think about it. Don't want to ruin the look of the bike, but I had a low speed incident on a bend and damaged knee ligaments trying to hold the bike up . It still went down anyway and I ended up with bruised ribs from the handlebars. I don't know if I could let it drop any easier if I knew I had the bars. I've been trying to find a picture of an 883 with them on. When I couldn't find one I kinda thought there might be a reason. Hence the question |
