First Ride

got back from india on 23rd, but got stranded in heathrow for a day, due to fog. slept on a bench at the airport... dreaming of collecting the v-rod at 2:00pm the next day.
24th - the flight finally took off at 7:45am and in about an hour or so i was in aberdeen. i was so excited at the thought of being able to count the remaining hours with my fingers on 1 hand. the day i had been waiting for a long long time was finally here, but something was not right! my luggage didnt make it on the same flight as mine. i was advised at the airport the luggage would be in aberdeen by one of the flights the same day; and there were 3 more flights scheduled to land in aberdeen the same day! i knew i wouldnt make it to edinburgh by 2:00pm to collect the bike.
the next possible date would be on the 27th. had no other choice but wait patiently. ruined my christmas just thinking how unlucky i was.
2 days of misery passed by and the sun shown again on the 27th. i woke up early and took the train to edinburgh; got off at the waverly and jumped into a cab and in no time i was at west mains road. spent the next hour or so sorting out paperwork and i soon i was the owner of a harley davidson v-rod.
i put on the riding gear and planted myself on the bike. had this funny feeling inside, "i need to ride 150 miles now." never had done such a distance on a bike ever.
i set off before dark and before i knew it i was cruising on the dual carriageway towards aberdeen. the wind blowing, the gurgle from the exhaust, the thought of riding a harley... all were playing games on my mind. the wide grin on my face was speaking for itself.
the next 2 and a half hours i spent riding literally on autopilot mode. and all of a sudden i see a 40 mile zone followed by a gatso. dejavu!! oh damn i have reached aberdeen. went home and showed off my new toy to my wife and then i had to make up a reason to go out again...
the whole of yesterday i was out on the bike. and i am loving every minute of it.
looking forward to the next aberdeen meet.

Re: First Ride

I had the same shit with getting bags back from London airports myself, I arrived in Aberdeen on the 23rd, bags arrived on the 28th. Local Harley riders meet at the Red Garth in Oldmeldrum every first Wednesday of the month but I think the first one of the new year is in Feb - check with Mark our Region Rep as I'm not sure. Remember that road salt as over generously applied by north east scotland councils loves all the shiny bits on V-Rods - it will never look the same again. Beware.

Re: First Ride

Hey Welcome
I live about 50 miles west of aberdeen, and Max is spot on about the destructive power of council road salt.Don,t just wash the salt off and hope, next time the temp rises and the damp air condenses on your still cold bike,go out and wash it off again . I find the temperature in the north east of Scotland goes up and doon like a hoors droors. Each time the temp rises the moisture in the air condenses and if left it will turn all your lovely alloy furry.
See you at the pub?
