Here is a post I put on the ScottishHD forum - trying to generate a bit of winter interest. Kag dyela, Well all - the weather is supposed to turn from "tropical" to Siberian on Sunday (hence the Russuian title) - so I hope you all had a run on your bikes today (Saturday 31st). I left Inverness heading North on the A9 towards Crow and Worzal - hoping to get a FREE cup of tea. It looked very overcast, so I turned back at Tore roundabout and headed south instead, down to Carrbridge, then up over the Dava to Nairn, then back via the A96 - 85 miles of sunshine and dry roads. BRILLIANT Did anyone else get out before the snow.? Dosvidanya Only saw 1 bike out - PowerRanger who sat with me for a while - but he obviously can't afford any more speeding tickets - coz I left him behind. ![]() Anyone else from up here get out today - it was fantastic to be riding again. ![]() Cheers - HogHog |

To listen to the media, you would think the world was coming to an end. SEVERE WEATHER WARNING they bleat, in doom laden tones, "There might be up to 5 cm of snow!". Erm. yes. Well that's just under 2" then, and it's winter... When I were a lad, I had a 30 mile ride every day to the iron foundry, and only a bike to get there on. Lethal really, but I always got there, although I suspect the winters weren't all that bad. Never more than 6" of snow I don't think, and if it was the usual 12-18" everything got moving pretty quickly, and it was considered normal... Chipping the ice off the beard was the first job in the morning. What's wrong with people these days..? Mind you, in those days, all the cars had skinny little tyres (but no heater), and everybody had snow tyres for the winter. Today, my car is shod with 4 snow boards, or they might as well be for all the traction they give.... ![]() We didn't have any sun down here on Sunday, and the Harley doesn't do salt in any case. The Guzzi's in bits, so last ride was 4th January (in the snow) to a funeral in Leith. Cold, very cold....

Chipping the ice off the beard was the first job in the morning. And I suppose that was before getting out of bed, I know it was the case when I was a lad, after a bad winter anyone who still had dining room chairs was POSH. |

Ah well, always kept a hammer by the chamber pot just in case the ice needed breaking....
