| RIP Griffin Jordan-Symonds "Griff" of Griffs Motor Services It is with great personal sadness and regret that I have to announce that Griff passed away at the age of 51 on Tuesday 30th May 2006 after battling so ferociously for the past couple of years against his lung cancer. He was working up until the end and was planning to go for ride with his mate Johnny Hawker this coming weekend. Griff had been a personal friend of mine for several years and his bike and trike building abilities were evident to all who knew him and like me so often asked for advice and help. Many of our HDR Club members used his services at Griffs Motorcyle Services in Kingswood in north bristol. Griff was famous locally and throughout the south west and south wales for the many services he offered including powder coating, shot and bead blasting, plating and electrical and mechanical engineering of the highest quality. In my own case he was responsible for the powder coating of the frame and cycle parts and some of the electrical and ignition work on my old '81 1340 Shovel during its rebuild in the late '90's. His knowledge and love of all things to do with bikes and biking (and the ladies!) was legendary around the west country and his presence will be sadly missed. If I can share just one anecdote of Griff to show how stoic and unaccepting of his fate he was ... Griff had a meeting with his Oncology consultant, a charming lady (and no doubt Griff had already asked for her number). When she told him that in her opinion the cancer was terminal and that he should put his affairs in order he swung round and said "Don't be ridiculous - I can't die - I've got a business to run!" West country motorcycling has lost one of its most famous local sons and I for my part have lost a friend. RIP Griff
