Re: Lance Straker

Tragic news. another rally character who is with us no more.

When Mitch first started rallying she called him the child catcher and was scared of him - purely because of his hat.

This year at Oswestry it all changed and she knew him as Lance and was fond of him, as I was. He even took a photo of me wearing his hat. What a shame this rally friendship will not continue.

My sincere sympathies to his family.

Re: Lance Straker

I first met Lance at the petrol station at Talgarth during the 2004 International. He'd come down "on spec" and was a regular at our rallies thereafter.

Once back at the site, I got talking to him about Harleys and life in general. He'd bought his Springer with the proceeds of a divorce settlement, deciding that the time had come to go out and enjoy himself. He joined HOG, was a regular on their scene and at St. Leger in Doncaster, and found out about our Club through meeting Kiwi Graeme at Aviemore, where they became friends.

I soon found that Lance's gaunt and rather lived-in face, crowned by his trade-mark top-hat, concealed a wonderfully dry sense of humour and a forthright honesty so typical of his Yorkshire roots. Invariably one of the first into the bar at a rally, he would spend the evenings sitting chatting to a small group of his mates, but always had a pleasant word for everyone.

Over the next couple of years, I came to know him a little, and like him a lot. I shall miss him.

Re: Lance Straker

I have fond memories of a genuine nice guy
only spoke a few times before Oz this year
kept trying to get his hat off him
as a fellow hat fan.

had a nice chat with him at Oz this year
a very interesting and knowlegabe guy
his hat and that bloody annoying long feather will be missed.
R.I.P
Lance
my loss that I never got to know you better.
