ricks tanks

i,ve just bought one of the tanks from ricks, ..before you all think rich git, not the case...i bought it direct from ricks and it cost.............................................. ........£305.00 inc the postage , only extra bit is the 15%german tax.
when i get it in about 10 days, i,ll let you know how the install goes, got to better than looking for petrol all the time as it holds 19L....

if anyones intersted i think this price is held till the 15th of feb and i have the sales managers number.....

just in case no one relises what this is..its a direct replacement tank which holds 19L of petrol.

and in case i get accused of advertising , i dont work for ricks or any one else in the bike industry, i,m a surveyor.
i just dont like being ripped off ,

Re: ricks tanks

well i,ll take it from the lack of posts that no-ones intersted so i,ll bin the tel number, considering the number of posts about poor fuel range i find it all amazing, but hey ....go an ask your hd dealer, he,ll sell you another bike instead, no getting dirty hands ect,and after all its only money........

Re: ricks tanks

Don't get frustrated, spyke. There's a limited number of V-Rod riders in the club and Rick's tanks have been previously covered here.

Be interested in hearing how your install goes, though.

Re: ricks tanks

Have been looking at a Ricks tank too - price seems to be a lot more realistic now too. Any idea how difficult the install is - I understood a slight frame mod was needed ?

Cheers
Griff

well , i am chill , i,ve got a tank coming, i paid £370 all in.
i,ve tried to be calm, i,ve tried to to enthuse other owners in to not just plodding off to the dealers, but you know what....i,ve given up.

i,m a long term owner, i,ve still got my shovel.
i had my softail a long time.

i,ve been to the irish riders club rally, and i was at the first oz rally as i know mog well.
i didnt go last year..on hol.
this isnt some thing i did on a mid life crisis
i,ve been involved with oily end over 20 years and built lots of stuff.

so to be honest i,ve no axe to grind, but was does annoy me is when people moan that their range is crap, they cant get this or that.

you do a load of leg work to find out , and they all sit back and post nowt.

i,ll install me tank, i,ll post some pics and some comments.....

one thing tho, i dont like being patronised at all.
perhaps a private pm would be more apt, i ,ve tried to create a bit of stimulation in the forum.
perhaps some wake up pills can be issued.

Re: ricks tanks

i started the install today,
the hardest bit so far has been the undo of the swingarm bolt, you need a 14mm allen key (and extention bar) and a 30mm socket for the other side.
its pretty tight and covered in locktight.
oh and you need two people as you cant reach both sides on your own.
the bike needs to have sat for 3 hours in order for the fuel pressure to have dropped, and the fittings on the top of the tank will come off easy, a bit of fuel will run back so have a rag on the top.
the tank will slide out (take off the filler) and cup of tea time.
next was cutting the skid plate, some of the usa guys have cut with a grider but i didnt fanct this as your just below the open fuel pipes.
so i marked the area with masking tape and did a line of small holes with a battery drill .
then using brute force it will break off in a nice neat line.
finished it off with a hand file .
you have to cut the splash guard , they show a piccy , just use a jigsaw, remeber not to cut of your fingers.
usuing the new skid plate and more masking tape you then drill 2 holes in the lower frame cross member to take a m6 thread and 2 holes in the bottom of the remaining skid plate of 6.5mm to take the supplied bolts and nuts.
more tea.
at thispoint i relised i hadnt got a m6 tap.
couldnt get one , halford would sell me a full set for £20 and focus sent me to the bathrooms and sinks dept.

i,ll update on the rest as i do it.

does anyone want the original tank??
not much use really....might make it into a exspensive porta bog.
Pat

when its all over i,ll post some pics.

Re: ricks tanks

Spyke I know it is a v rod that you are working on and you are a hands on H-D man with your other rides. Had you thought about using our NEW section Custom Zone there YOUR audience would be much greater as some folk don't look in here at all as you have spotted on previous posts. BTW You suggested I or anyone pm you, I did ...any answer?
