Re: problem brake light

Hi Mate,

I'm guessing it's your front brake that's the problem. In which case it's either a badly fitted Master cylinder (i.e. there is s gap between the MC and the switchgear) or its a lazy piston in the master cylinder.
If the master cylinder or switchgear have been disturbed recently you need to check that they have been put back together right!
If it's a lazy piston, the hydraulic pressure in the system is not enough to overcome both the "sticktion" in the piston AND the spring in the brake switch. Liberal amounts of WD40 might unstick it. Failing that, it will have to be stripped and cleaned. In extreme cases the piston will have to be replaced. Rebuild kits are available from most dealers.
By the way, this IS a common problem.

Re: problem brake light

Dont know if this helps but i had a 99 dyna that had a lazy front brake switch and it turned out to be a problem with the little button switch just behind the brake lever ,the brake switch is held in by a little metal strip but when you used the brake the whole switch was getting pushed into the mastercylinder housing so was not working properly i poped a little piece of dowling behind the button swich and had no more problems

Re: problem brake light

Had this problem on mine and found I could turn it off by pushing the front lever forward, but was passing an indie who just pumped WD40 into it and worked it vigorously back and forward and it was sorted for 18 months. It happened again last week and I did the same as before and its sorted again now.
