Do or don't help please

Help needed
Right guys please can you give me the pros and cons for a v-rod I am being very tempted with the bike like pictured Night Rod. I will book a test ride but I thought who's the best guys to ask the one's here rather than a salesman. Remember for the last 5 years I have been riding a Softail Custom which went through a bit of a change last year .
If you like drop me a pm with your number and I will ring
many thanks for your help

Music (Rob)

Re: Do or don't help please

Great bike ,had a new Vrod think it is good if you have been riding a jap bike but as much as I tried to convince my self it did not do it for me.There is only one fault no sorry three faults with the Vrod,1 crap rear suspension,2 front forks aren't the best,3 to me this is the biggest fault as the others can be fixed is the bikes lack of character,it could be any of the similar jap bikes which are equally as good and carry the same charisma.
My mate has just bought a new street rod and I have just bought a Buell X1 White lightning 2002 last time it was used was march 2003, 1145 miles it has not even had its first sevice.Chucked all the crap off it fit race pipe force winder etc etc and when we go out people flock round the Buell and his Vrod does not get noticed

Re: Do or don't help please

We just took delivery of an 08 Night Rod demo. I used it for a business trip to another store & back. Rural roads, 70 odd mile round trip.
I presumed the huge rear tyre would be an issue, but to be honest I hardly noticed it in the curves Once you get used to using the revs it is very powerful. Tight turns need to be taken slowly, but using the power to accelerate away is a lot of fun.
However..........I found the riding position to be very uncomfortable.
The bars would be ok with mid mount foot controls. The foot controls would be acceptable with different bars. The stock combination though did not work for me at all. I am six foot, & the long arm & leg stretch almost bent me into a `U` shape, which did not make me feel totally in control.
Great looking bike. I would have to change some things though.

The foot controls shouldn't be a problem once you get used to them, but most people change the bars. Have a word with Roger (webmaster). He got one and changed the bars (and pipes) probably even before he saw his.

Talking Re: Do or don't help please

Well I haven't got a Night Rod but I have had a V-Rod since the beginning of the year and I LOVE it!
Before that I had a 92 FXR that I built from scratch and I like the Rod much more. To be fare though Most of my past bikes have been Jap bikes and to me the V-Rod is just the right compromise between the two, it has plenty of power when you need it, its very comfortable, it sounds good with the V&H pipes on and it still retains that HARLEY image (imho anyway).

Re: Do or don't help please

I feel like Essjay, having finally seen your bike at the Devon rally, but still....

The local dealer lent me a V-Rod for a day some time back and I have to say I liked it much more than I expected. It felt a bit like a moped with forwards after the Road King, but it's got a nice little powerband kick, is easy to throw around and sweetly balanced on the whole. In fact I found it a whole lot fo fun....

But it doesn't turn me on like a low grunt twin does, giving nice thuddy kicks as you open the trottle.....

Cheers

Mike

Re: Do or don't help please

I love my vrod. It felt very small and moped like when I first had a test ride, but I was used to riding a Heritage. It was so much fun I just had to have one so I traded in the Heritage and bought one, that was October 2002. I still think it's the best bike I've ever had. I do like the night rod and went to try one but it didn't fit me. I'm not sorry really.
