Chromed Rod - anything to watch out for?

Got the old Deuce up for sale at the moment & been offered a fully chromed '03 Rod in PX.

It has the full official HD chromed paintwork set, tank, fenders, airbox covers, radiator panels etc.

I've seen a few of these around and they always seem to draw a bit of a crowd so must be fairly popular.

I thought it might be fun to take it for a while & then maybe sell in the future. Just wondered if anyone knows of any problems with the chrome finish bikes and/or anything I should look out for?

Not sure what these are fetching these days either. I'm assuming around £8K to £8.5K for an '03 with custom finish & 16K on the clock?

There was a problem with the chrome coming off the engine casings, that is one of the reasons I bought the B model ,no chrome.
One of my mates has just bought a brand new street rod from Clay cross power sports(not a Harley dealer) but they do sell new Harleys and he paid £7100 for it.

Re: Chromed Rod - anything to watch out for?

Don't get me wrong, as I love my V-Rod; but IMO the V-Rods were grossly overpriced until the 2006 models. Additionally, the older models have the small gas tank, which is a constant irritation. I haven't heard any negatives about the chromed (anodized, not chromed, I think) anniversary versions, but they're not to my taste. It may be that, in the long run, the anniversary versions will fetch more, but I don't think I would count on that happening. Over here, there is a tendency to ride V-Rods very hard (they are dragsters, after all), so they may get more abuse than other Harleys. Be sure to get a complete history of maintenance, and look at engine wear and abuse closely.

Much as I prefer the V-Rod, I also think from a pure monetary standpoint, Deuces are worth more. Are they going to buy the Deuce and throw in the V-Rod for good measure?

The one I've seen is actually chromed and not the anodised finish.

A bit like the pic attached.

It's not a straight trade, there's a very interesting "addendum" to the deal that is making me smile lots

The addendum might make the deal, and I guess the change from a Deuce to a V-Rod would not be as unsettling as, say, a change from a Road King to a V-Rod.

If I go for the deal then I'll be keeping the other Deuce (the one with the 124" S&S engine) anyway. Should be fun comparing the two
