What about the people who can't buy day tickets/weren't going to Os? Will they be allowed onto the site?

Time's marching on and we have routes that have been refined over the last couple of rides, what's wrong with what we did before?
You don't have to change just for change's sake.
Numbers were down on the previous year but I wonder how much of that was due to the weather.
Change the emphasis or nature of the ride and you could lose even more.
I've been chewing this over for a few days and Boogiefool has come up with exactly the same points that I was going to make.
The whole point of the exercise surely is to raise money from sponsorship, and to do that we have to present potential sponsors with an event encompassing some measure of achievment or hardship. LEtoJOG surely does this.

Re: Ride for Life 2007

Both years it has pissed down real heavy some areas were lucky last year and stayed dry. But whatever is thrown at the riders it has been completed.

I say leave well alone, essjays out of the organising this year so it would be easier to use past routes that each region knows. Don't fix what ain't broke.

BTW I'd like to see the name changed of the building in Africa

At present!

The Harley Davidson Holistic Medical Centre.

Should be as there is NO input from H-D MoCo.

The Harley Davidson Riders Club of Gt Britain Holistic Medical Centre.

Essjay wrote in about the name and got this:
Quote:
Hi Essjay,

Thank you so much for copying me in on riders comments regarding the medical centre in South Africa.

I understand exactly where the riders are coming from, and have spoken to the Trustees about the matter.

In view of these recent comments, we have decided to have a sponsorship board outside of the new clinic and put all sponsors names on it.

What has happened in the last 6 months is making us realise that this project is getting larger by the moment, and we need everyone’s help to make this happen, our audited accounts show that this project which has cost over £220,000 to date, is now costing on average £4,000 a month to run

So is it still called '
The Harley Davidson Holistic Medical Centre?'

Quote:
.........I think we need to do more ground work for the riders, and send them up leaflets and sponsorship forms in March, they can not be expected to raise the running costs of this project as its just going to keep getting bigger.

........Fundraising is really hard work, and each weekend that I am home in the U.K. is taken with various events. I actually got home from Dorset and our GNHCT annual Christmas Craft Fair at 1.30 a.m. this morning.

I returned home from South Africa one week ago. This time Alex Salt who is a voluntary Trustee came out with me,...

.........I am back to South Africa on December 27th for 10 days more work!!! No play!

Are the cost of all these flights met privately? Any answers?

Sorry disillusioned unless proven otherwise...

.... but as they say in the dragons I'm outta here...for the time being maybe.

.....sorry Dave but I want to know ...

Re: Ride for Life 2007

Baza

Can't answer the name on the board thing, I have no idea as I haven't dealt with Annette directly. But, in fairness to her she probably had no idea that HDRCGB had nothing to do with moco. I doubt she even knew about HOG etc..same as any other non-harley riding person. I think Esjay has put her right on this but I'm not 100% sure. To be honest I only got involved to sort the routes / handover points / timings out.

When Essjay first told me of the work she does he said that she herself paid for the flights out of her own pocket and as far as I'm aware all monies recieved from the RFL go directly to good use and not just to finance her visits. I presume this is still the case mate.

To be honest, the hassle, earaches, headaches and criticisms Essjay & myself have come under for sorting this out the last couple of years have made us feel like saying bollox, we aren't doing it again

But, despite the weather it brought most of the regions together to unite for one cause and it was done with great spirit and no moaning by those who took part. Annette asked Essjay if we were doing it again as she ( sorry ) the charity needs the money desperately. I know a lot of riders think charity begins at home or would rather it was for a different charity but again which one would we pick. Remember "she" asked us to do it. If she hadn't then we still wouldn't be doing anything clubwise for any charity. I know each region has their own charities to support but this is supposed to be a united one.

From the response we've had I think we'll just tell Annette that there's not enough interest any more and we wouldn't be able to make it worthwhile with just the few riders that are interested. It would be no skin off our noses. The only one to suffer would be the charity which would be 2 or 3 grand down this year

Hope this answers something for you Baza

Kendo ( very disappointed at the lack of responses / interest so far )

Re: Ride for Life 2007

Cheers mate. 'The club' does give a lot of money to charity the post in Region 2 is 1/2 of what they were given at the AGM when their name came out the hat I think in 2005.

They have already presented the other half. I think region 9 has it at the moment. Plus collections and the oppertunatly to donate when renewing membership etc also at Oz so we are pretty good at the ole charity bit.

Re: Ride for Life 2007

Baza,

I'm not disputing the fact that the club does a lot for charity, but the RFL tried to involve everyone from every region in one single event. Some chose to do it, others didn't and some would have liked to have done it but were doing another event. BMF for example.

I just think the problem is the charity we do it for. Most folk aren't interested in African kids orphaned by aids unless some celebreties are involved

So many charities were put forward after the first year it would have been impossible to single one out.

Like I say, they asked us and we said yes. This year.............well maybe, maybe not. We'll see if interest picks up ot not.

Kendo

I'm interested depending on dates. Can't do the national rally this year, and I love a challenging ride to get my teeth into, hence my interest in the IBA rides.

Re: Ride for Life 2007

I think the amazing thing about the original RFL was the way this forum pulled us all together and enabled the coordination.

I agree with sticking to the original routes - be it up or down.
As one of the regions not close to the route is was my choice to travel a distance to be involved and get so soaked in the process it was unbelievable.

If the dates were OK I will get involved again.

I don't think its a good idea to tie it in with the national rally - I think it would cause more problems which would marr the good work.

Re: Ride for Life 2007

Oi I'm watching you lot! anyway if anything does happen I will still be there to help me ole mate Kendo! with the forms n all, but like he said it does get you down sometimes, but hell it was all about volunteers so we have done pretty good in the last two years and maybe we ought to stand aside for some one to organise something for another charity. I bet if the GNHCT had attracted some sort of media or celebrity attention we would have been inundated with people wanting to ride but nevermind, the good people who did help out by simply riding their Harleys were rewarded by having a good (wet) time and meeting other good people and lots of friendships were born, plus we raised some dosh!
Anyway, as to the airfares, as far as I know Annette pays for them herself, she has been trying to get a deal with Virgin but I dont think that anything has come from it yet, but without the airfares nothing would get done so they must be a valid expense anyway. (accounts should be available) as for the naming of the Clinic, Annette always wanted to call it the "Harley-Davidson Holistic Clinic" and it did have the HDRCGB & Kernow logo on it, but after it was pointed out to her about the MoCo / HOG / HDRCGB etc she is now just going to have a board with all of the Sponsors logos on it, which is fair as we are not the only fundraisers. I think that Annettes experience with the Harley world has probably confused the hell out of her! bloody politics
Perhaps Kendo and myself will put our bonces together in August and come up with an idea for a ride that will involve the whole Club and no politics, maybe let each region choose a good cause or something! just a thought. Hey Bowenman, on the last ride I did just over 2000 miles although I did spread it over 4 days, (even got a L.E. to JOG to L.E. certificate!) but I did do Aviemore to Newquay in 9 hours and five minutes! guess me and Devon John are Ironbutts if we do one it will be good to have you along!
