| Re: Ride for Life 2007 Just discovered the thread, as I've not been around that much... I don't know why it's gone so negative, but suspect it's simply that the show's not on the road, and maybe the thread's not in such an ovious place as it was before (Virtual Rally maybe?). If it was all up and running, had a date, and everybody knew what was happening, then I guess all the usual suspects, plus a few of the new ones, would get on board, same as they've always done. I would. Running a charity event is like running any event. There will be those who think it's great, those who don't care either way, and those who are actively against it. That's fine: each to their own, and no one could or should feel pressurised into joining in with something they are not comfortable with. Those of us who do want to do this need to move on and away from the negative feedback from those who don't want to be involved. As somebody already said, the prime objective of this is to raise money for what those of us who participate believe is a worthwhile cause. Having a good time whilst we do it is the bonus, but it's not the reason for doing it. Getting the sponsorship is the key, and if each individual raises less than they spent in petrol, they's have been better digging into their own pockets, and leaving the bike in the shed. I had some problems both years, because LE to JOG sounds impressive - until your sponsors find out you're only doing part of it. Then they begin to wonder why they should part with their hard-earned so you can go out for a weekend ride with your mates... First year was OK, but I got most of the money last year on the back of those who were doing the whole route, all the way from LE to JOG, and all the way back. Hats off to them. As requests for sponsorship get more and more wacky, people get more and more cynical (do you really want to sponsor that kid who wants to canoe down the Amazon, or take a parachute jump.... or do you sneakingly resent the fact that they're doing something so desirable?) and we need to be seen to be making a significant effort, before sponsors will feel we have done anything that justifies sponsorship. I was GLAD that it rained and was freezing cold that past two years. Our misery and suffering makes people think we did something challenging. If we did the same on a fine, sunny, summer's day, they would be left thinking we just went out and had a good time, and they would be right. Anyway, enough of that. If it's on, and if I'm here, I'll continue to support it, and pray for rain - loads of it.... ![]()

| Re: Ride for Life 2007 Some updates from Annette; THE GLOBAL NATURAL HEALTHCARE TRUST “Holistic Treatment for HIV/AIDS” 58 Fairmantle Street Truro, Cornwall England, U.K. TR1 2EG UK Registration 4833784 SA Registration 2003/02937/08 March 14TH 2007 YOU ARE INVITED TO MY HOME ON FRIDAY 30th MARCH 2007 A SOCIAL EVENING FROM US TO YOU We hope we find you well and happy in your lives. Our work out in South Africa continues daily, and I am just flying out tomorrow for my 58th trip to the project. The new farm is beginning to look good; we have braved snakes, plains fires, and an attempted break in! now we are braving serious drought. There has been no rain since November 18th. This weekend over 150 different varieties of Medical Herbs come over to the farm from Doonholm Nursery, you will recall meeting Doug Watson and Louis Van Aswegan when they came over to our winter ball in 2003.Well they have been a huge help to us, and the plants are now strong enough to come over to GNHCT farm. I shall be purchasing many watering cans! this will be the situation until we can have our very own borehole and an unlimited water supply. The project at last has a real base; we do not own the farm but have it on a lease, with an option to purchase within three years. This we will endeavor to do. We have painted decorated, knocked down walls put in new windows, weather boards and gutters, added security bars and got a very overgrown garden into shape. We have 10 full time staff at the clinic, and they really do put in a days work keeping patients happy, the clinic clean and the grounds tidy with our watchmen who patrol the grounds 24/7. Our clinic although in places looks a bit like a building site is really smart; our dispensary is on par with any hospital dispensary in the U.K.We are still caring for a huge number of patients that rely on our services to stay alive. There really is a great energy at the clinic. We have fenced 20 of the 120 acres, and ploughed the same. Wow! the ground was hard! It took a tractor with driver three days to do this ,we hired him in from the local Catholic Church and Father Lewis said he prayed and prayed that the tractor would not break!! But he still charged us! And we were praying he wouldn’t! Elizabeth Lyden our Herbal President, from The Unified Register of Herbal Practitioners www.urhp.com came out with me on the last trip and returned to the U.K. very enthusiastic about our holistic healing approaches and success’s with the HIV/AIDS patients, Liz has now become a Trustee and is a huge help and support to both me personally and the project. Fundraising in the U.K. continues at a frantic pace, and without your support we would never make it. The project is now running at around £3,000 a month. And that has to be found before I even leave Truro! Once we have the Cuddle Centre open for the HIV/AIDS Babies and Toddlers, that figure is going to double. We are endeavoring to convert this building as funds permit. There are many fundraising events this year, and we need your smiles and support. As many of you already know our 7th World Aids Week ball is to be held in London this year, and we intend to take a coach from Truro to London and stay over for two nights. If you’re up for it please let us know. If any one of you would like a copy or to read, our audited accounts you are most welcome to do so. Just ask. If you would like a Social Calendar posted to you please let us know. All that remains for me to say is: Harley Davidson riders come and party with us soon. Because, without your support, we would not have got this far. “Ride for Life 2007” Kendo is organizing it this year, and dates have not yet been decided. God Bless you all and thank you so much for helping us, to help others. Annette Montague-Thomas The Founder Essjay will give your directions to my home Lower Penhale Farmhouse Fraddon
