How do you get it up

To speed that is ,I mean is it a good idea to blast your way up to the legal limit or to slowly accelerate through the gears for economy will it be best to zap your way up or take your time and look at the scenery ,I suppose blasting your way around puts a lot of strain on chains etc so could it be a false economy

It's all about being in the right gear for a good throttle reponse. You need to know your engine and at what revs you get the best reponse from.
It also depends whether you want the acceleration for overtakes or just for general increase in speed.

Do you mean how do you get the best petrol mileage? Lambo. As in: get the acceleration out of the way by redlining in every gear and go into cruise mode as soon as possible? Or short shift and lazily gather momentum until you bumble along at the limit. For the truly miserly it's the short shifting don't open the throttle more than a whisker, cruise at fifty and never use the brakes thing we all do when we go onto reserve.

I nail mine most of the time. 1:40 2:60 3:90 4&5 ? Change just before the limiter.

Other times just cruise. Doesn't affect economy that much. 95 to 105 miles till reserve.

2004 883 tweaked a bit.

On a good run, hammering the throttle easing back, up and down the gearbox etc, etc, etc I get 115 miles to the tank then onto reserve, not bad eh !!!!!!!
