Re: Motorcycycle/Car Impounded.

Good News today my mate who had his car impounded got a cheque from his insurance broker for £135 to cover the cost of his car being impounded. No compensation for inconvenience but some justice at least. It was the broker who had failed to to register that he was insured.

Re: Motorcycycle/Car Impounded.

usual practice in Sussex is for the vehicle to be checked against the database, if it shows as uninsured it will be stopped and questions asked, if they admit the vehicle is uninsured they will be asked to sign a waiver form and the vehicle will be siezed.

if they are absolutely adamant that they do have insurance and their identity is confirmed an HORT1 form will be completed (7 day wonder) and if they fail to produce their documents they will be reported and summonsed to court.

seems to work, certainly a whole lot less uninsured cars on the road.

Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act

In theory this should work, my insurance is due every February 1st. I renewed with HD insurance the first week of January. I wasn't put on the database until February 10th. So had to sorn it until March. This also happened last year.
In March, I'll tax it for 6 months only, then renew for 12 months. This way the tax and insurance will be about 6 months apart, so it can't happen again.
The sun is out today and it would have been nice to be on the bike and froze up me arse.

Every year in the same month, I get tax, insurance, recovery insurance and MOT all at the same time...gets a bit expensive, so I'll split 'em up.

Brian.

That seems to be a much better arrangement than is the case here. The car owner had quite detailed information on him as he had been to order a spare key from the local Mercedes dealership who have a very strict policy on I.D. before issuing keys.
