| Motorcycycle/Car Impounded. Recently two people that I know have been stopped by the police and ended up having their transport taken off them. In the first case no reason was given on the paperwork. In the second it was because details of the insurance did not appear on the police database. In both cases the tax, mot and insurance were valid. Can I suggest that when you pay your insurance you check that you are on the database. Both parties had to walk home and the cost of getting back their property was £135-00p. It seems that Dick Turpin rides again. |

| Re: Motorcycycle/Car Impounded. What's the link to the database again? I better check it this time as I didn't when these messages first came round.

| Re: Motorcycycle/Car Impounded. Mine's not on there, I've been chasing H.D.Ins.Service since Baza posted it last time. I don't know what to do next ? ![]() |

| Re: Motorcycycle/Car Impounded. If this is true surely the old bill may be breaking the Data Protection Act. If not the Police then whoever holds the data on your vehicle. I am sure any data that someone holds on you must be accurate. If your friends have lost money to someone else's errors i feel that they may have some means of redress. What about the Citizens Advice Bureau, they may be able to provide some info on this one. Seems well out of order to get your vehicle taken away with no reason. ![]()

I would be interested to know if anyone else has come across this type of incedent. Both cases were in the Greater Manchester Police Area in the same traffic division. In fact they were within 1/2 a mile of each other. Yours with thanks, Tony Cross. |

| Re: Motorcycycle/Car Impounded. My bike isn’t on there either, so I contacted my insurance company and was told that they (the insurance company) have 14 days to put the data on the database, as I have only recently insured my bike I suppose I didn’t expect it to be there right now, she did say that if you are stopped the police should give you a ticket to produce your documents within seven days, not take it away from you and make you walk home, then charge you to get it back again even after proving it was in fact totally legal, She also said you should carry your insurance certificate with you at all times!!! I have a friend who is a copper in greater Manchester police, I have sent him this thread and asked him to comment, as soon as I get a reply I’ll post it, I suppose this wont happen now until next year!! | Re: Motorcycycle/Car Impounded. From JAN 1st the company will have only 7 days to enter details. Looks like they plan to make a big deal of this. Of course by March they will have lost the data anyway. ![]() |
