Breakdown Cover ?

My breakdown cover expires at the end of February 2008. I always like to have this type of cover and feel its time to ask:

Does the HDRCGB have anything organized for members breakdown cover like MAG have ?

If not does any one have any recommendations in these lean times ?

Re: Breakdown Cover ?

I'm a member of MAG and use their breakdown cover. That does it for me.

I have been on flatbeds with other services who don't know one end of a bike from another.

At least with MAG you get a biker normally that tries to get your ride going before recovering.

Re: Breakdown Cover ?

I think the Mag cover is through Boncaster Mechanical Insurance Division mine was £50.00. Just fishing for the best deal. If Mag can offer a reasonable deal through Boncaster HDRCGB must be able to negotiate a deal for its members. Just a thought............

Re: Breakdown Cover ?

Be careful with some recovery deals, i.e. The AA

Friend of mine had a spill on the A1 in N Yorks. Hit gravel whilst braking and dropped it.

Called the AA to recover, yes they had full recovery, only to be told that as it was an RTA and not breakdown, it would cost £120 to move to nearest garage. This is in the smallprint where you would need a decent electron microscope to read.

I use Carole Nash.

Re: Breakdown Cover ?

Concerned about MAG cover being underwritten by Equity Red Star,
Equity do have a breakdown/recovery scheme but use local recovery firms who don't necessarily have the skills to repair a bike, no doubt they are competent mechanics (although some arn't, I've worked with a few) but might shy away from a bike and just resort to recovery.

I can understand the AA's point about it being a RTC not a breakdown, a RTC shoud be covered by your insurance. Some insurance companies have an agreement with some clubs and will recover you.

Re: Breakdown Cover ?

Strange this as my Mag breakdown is through Boncaster Mechanical Insurance Division (01277 235500) at £50.00 for a breakdown in UK and Europe or £90.00 for bike and car.

Not sure if I'm going to stay with Mag. When I telephoned Boncaster they made no reference to Mag so I'm not sure if it only applies to Mag members. I will phone again and find out. still think as a club the HDRCGB should be able to obtain a good deal/'better deal'........
