Getting Banned

The other night conversation in the pub moved to the subject of Learner Riders and the greater difficulties that face them taking up motorcycling. Someone added that they are more likely to get banned because 6 points means a ban. I am certain that we must have a few police riders on here and wondered if they could shed any light on the subject.

Re: Getting Banned

Not sure if the changes were the same as the car, but if a new car driver gets 6 points within the first 2 years you are automatically banned for 6 months and have to retake theroy and driving test before you can drive again.think this info correct as only had my drive licence couple months and thats what i was told by instructor.

Re: Getting Banned

All these changes are focused on law-abiding citizens who will follow them and pay up when caught out. When the real problem are the asswipes who ride/drive without Test / Tax / MOT / Insurance. These are the ones who should be targeted but then they don’t generate any income they just use up resources. Hit a nerv end there. but I'm OK now

Re: Getting Banned

wormy`s right but not sure about the 6 months ban, but by the time you have done the tests again it probably would be about 6 months.
now to my gripe about speed camera vans, you drive around all week keeping to the speed limit until you come across a cyclist/milk float or bus in a bus stop you see a gap accelerate to pass get up to 37 mph in a 30 zone and then you see the camera van,too late now you are nabbed.
at least with a copper you could argue your case and get away with a be more careful next time!!

Re: Getting Banned

It is the same for new bike riders, but the 6 points ban only applies if you don't hold a car licence yet. You don't have to do the 6 points in 2 years risk to get banned again if you've already done that when you got your car licence. I've got a friend who hasn't got a car licence and passed last year and when you go riding with him 30 means 30, sigh.... it's when you realise that you never do that yourself only if there's a camera. He just thinks there's police hiding everywhere to dish him out points

Re: Getting Banned

The new drivers act is:-

If you accumilate 6 or more penalty points in the first two years, your full licence will be revoked. You will then have to apply for a provisional licence and take the theory and practical test again.

Passing the retest will not remove these points, and if the total reach 12, you are liable to be disqualified by a court.

6 points = revoked
12 points = ban
