| older Harley speedos and continental driving
Hi Guys, Having just moved to France, and now facing the inticacies of the French reregistration system, etc. I have been trying to figure a good way of keeping to posted speed limits. I have sourced KPH overlay rings that I hope will fit the speedo on my 94 Heritage Softail (older UK version does NOT have KPH as well as MPH). This set of stickers(which has many more sytles than I actually require is available from the link below.............. Speedometer Conversion Stickers KPH mph MPH kph Speedo on eBay, also, Other Motorcycle Parts, Motorcycle Parts Accessories, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 04-Aug-08 21:12:14 BST) If anyone is touring in the EU this may be useful. I leave it to you Baza or Roger to move it to the appropriate area of interest. Keep well everyone and ride safe. John B

That item will disappear in time, so the link will fail. The seller is: eBay My World - cooldealsonline4u Looks as if a set will do at least two of our bikes!

I bought a set of these for my 1990 bike, in readiness for a Continental trip. I managed to make use of them, but the calibrations of none of the kph rings included corresponded to my speedo. I ended up cutting a ring into small bits to mark the likely speed limits, also stuck a linear scale included onto my binnacle, so I could check while travelling. So it proved useful and better than nothing, but didn't provide what I had hoped and expected.

Having just come back from France, I used the method of:- posted speed /2 and add 1st digit of posted speed e.g. 70 kph /2 = 35 + 7 = 42 mph. Of course this is approximate, but mostly was near enough as showed against GPS speed. |
