high speed wobble (difficult situations)

Inspired to learn more having read Maggers thread http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...m18-today.html

I came across this site (glad to see my bruvs advise from the 70s... if you are on the bike and shit happens, accelerating might be better than braking you'll have more control, rings true).

Re: high speed wobble (difficult situations)

Excellent advice on the second link.

I like the bit about getting off the bike to test the depth of water on the road - brings back memories.

Back in the late 70s I encountered a flood on a road I knew very well - I thought - one moonlit night. I set off to cross it on my FX1200, very slowly. I came to a stop when the engine was so overloaded it stalled - when the water was almost up to the sparkplugs! Took ages to push it back out....

Re: high speed wobble (difficult situations)

Back in the day.. my brother who was taught by ex ww11 dispatch riders how to ride a motorcycle..used to say to me ,his younger bro...''if you skid on ice steer into it..if you get into a speed wobble exelerate''..and one I have never had to try... ''if you see trouble coming get up on the saddle and push off the opposite way'' ..desperate men do desperate things...I do not endorse any of these things...

Re: high speed wobble (difficult situations)

Hey zipps,
I can admit to jumping clear on only one occasion, and it certainly worked for me. Cager pulled out and parked broadside across me, no where to go and no way to stop, I went over the top and the bike went in through the drivers door. He'll not do it again. Not sure I could actually do it with my harley under me, but it is surprising the things you'll do to save your life.
Cheers
Mick
