Could save someone's life

How to remove a crash helmet from someone who has stopped breathing

YouTube - Crash helmet removal

If a person is still breathing it's best to leave the helmet on and let emergency services assess what to do.

And if it's an open face you can probably just remove the visor or whatever to give mouth to mouth. You still need to support the neck though if any fiddling to get the visor off etc. is required.

Cheers

Mike

Before you do anything make sure YOU are safe to do whatever, even if it means moving someone before medical advice is there otherwise you could become the next victim. Get someone to summon help or you will have to do that yourself.

scenario:......in the middle of nowhere no phone signal someone needs mouth to mouth what do you do?
A. Position the casualty’s chin at an angle downward, open the mouth and check for material which may be causing an obstruction. Scoop any material out of the mouth using your fingers..(false teeth, food, sick)
Now to open the breathing passage put the head in backward tilt and this can often let the person to start breathing again on their own. With head tilted back and a good clear airway place your ear over the mouth to listen and feel if the person is breathing, if not start CPR. After a couple of minutes and still no response you need to place casualty in recovery position making sure airway is open and get help.
On your return continue with CPR in the knowledge that help is on the way. Sounds tough to leave someone but if you don't summon help are you going to stay there until you are exhausted and then get help? It would be far too late then.
