Red face Mot

My Sposter has just turned 3 this month and I am unsure when to mot it. Bob the other half said it needs 1 now. I looked at the thread on this site for mot's and it said over 3 years, so can I leave it untill just before its 4 birthday?

Re: Mot

As with all new vehicles once the vehicle has become 3 years old you need an MOT as per your Tax renewal notice from the DVLA it will ask you for a current MOTand insurance.

You need one now, as you are riding it illegally.

Re: Mot

Dolly,

While we all display a current tax disc on our vehicles, we also must have a current MoT certificate, if required. The only difference between those two is we don't have to display the MoT certificate, but as BaZa says, we must have one. So as soon as your bike reached its third birthday, it became a requirement to get it MoT'ed, if you intend to ride it on the public highway.

The start of the riding season is on us and there will be bikers all over the land arranging MoTs so they can tax their bikes for the Summer, so get in quick!

Barbara

Don't forget that with ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) technology, the bobbies can now tell if your MOT's expired, and in many cases whether or not the bike is insured.

It's one type of snooping camera that I have no problem with, since it weeds out the scumbags who have no insurance.

Re: Mot

Kev raises a good point. Even if everything else in place, if one (impersonal!) does not have a valid MoT, then one's insurance is almost definitely invalid.

So everything has to be in place to avoid attracting unwanted attention....

Re: Mot

One final point on this; most of you will probably know this but it's worth repeating.

You are allowed by law to ride an un-taxed motor cycle to and from a pre-booked MOT test. It must, though, be insured.

Caution; do not be tempted to go for a 20 mile blast before arriving at the MOT station. There is case history for drivers being done for no tax/MOT/insurance if they do this; the trip should be, as reasonably as possible, directly there and back.
