Driving licence + towing

OK, I believe that if you passed your car test before 1997 you don't need anything more to tow a trailer with your car. What I can't find out from any DVLA info is whether the same applies to bikes.
Also, according to DVLA:
Car licences obtained before 1 January 1997

If you passed a car test before 1 January 1997 you keep your existing entitlement to tow trailers until your licence expires.

My licence expires in 2021, my 70th birthday; so I have to take a test after that to continue towing a trailer???
And what about the 'new' photo licences that expire after ten years (I don't have one-yet)?
Jeez. Messy.
Cheers,
Pete

The photo licences don't expire, they just become invalid after 10 years untill you provide a new photo.

You won't have to take another test after your 70th birthday Pete; they will ask you if you wish to keep the entitlement, but if you say yes and send your licence off then make damn sure you have a certified copy; it's not unknown for it to come back minus your bike licence!

Re: Driving licence + towing

Thanks for that, Kev; a chap I know who's in his seventies treated himself to a Ducati 900SS only to find that he'd 'lost' the bike part of his licence that way - not a happy man, no sir.
He didn't mention the trailer entitlement; I'll have to ask him next time I see him if he spotted that bit.
Cheers,
Pete

There is no +E for bikes Pete, as we are restricted to 150kg.
You only need the +E for a car if your trailer exceeds 750kg M.A.M.
The car rules can be a little bit confusing.
You do need to remember that when you tow with your bike, car and trailer speed limits apply. Don`t they MOG? lol .
