Unhappy Misplaced Bottle....................

Got shafted by a Beemer driver, he sat parked just round a blind bend nattering on his mobile............from being cranked over, I managed to get vertical enough to avoid him and just miss the oncoming 4x4.......
Thing is 'Bottle has gone'.....I'm riding like a total novice, slow, jerky, bends now freak me out....................roundabouts..........

Help........................please..............!

Aint much anyone can do to help mate, you got to just keep throwing ya leg over the thing and keep riding it, we'v all been there. nine times out of ten there is a lesson to be learn't, that's the trick though, learning by them.

Re: Misplaced Bottle....................

As already put, treat it as a learning experience.

2 things here, you did not freeze and got out of the situation but the other is don't ride at a speed that you cannot stop in the visible distance. It could have been an animal, oil in the road or even worse children.

But we learn more from mistakes we get out of unscathed than training or reading about it.
Just take it easy and concentrate and you'll come out of this better than before.

Take Care

Re: Misplaced Bottle....................

Everyone's right there is nothing better than just getting on and riding. Make sure you do all those things that you are taught by riding to a system. Include lifesaver glances, use the dissappearing point on bends to judge the depth of the corner and ride within your vision. Eye contact with road users at junctions as early as possible. Ride with others in a small group ifs you can. Not a large group however as this can bring other problems.
Get the confidence back gently and good luck.

Re: Misplaced Bottle....................

Cheers Guys!!

It's as well I was doing only about 25mph but it 'frit the life outta me'. I made a point of riding everyday but that seemed to make it worse, I think I was trying too hard to be relaxed!!

I'm leaving it for a few days and using the car. I'm hoping that when I get back on, the break will have helped....................

Boy! Do I feel a twat!!

Re: Misplaced Bottle....................

You should not leave it for a few days, it will make it worse. We have some good dry days down here in the south use it.

As previously said by Manhole use the left side of the road to see around right hand corners and the outside middle to see around the left bends.

Along any road especially country lanes expect a tractor to be doing 5mph as you go round a blind bend.

Ride within your vision and....'Get on your bike!'

Don't forget Ace nite on 24th.

Re: Misplaced Bottle....................

Nah the real twat's the guy parked in a stupid place round a blind bend. You on the other hand are a good enough rider to react in time to take evasive action. Instead of beating yourself up about it pat yourself on the back and enjoy the ride!

See ya on the road sometime buddy!

If anything you should be feeling lucky, You got out of what could have been a very bad situation and we have had too many of them here this year.

Get out on the bike on a pleasure ride not commuting. You can then go where you want, On your favourite roads. While out, say aloud all the hazards you are approaching so you get used to looking further up the road for possible problems. Something we learnt at Cadwell Park is if you are feeling tense whistle or sing. Sounds silly but it really relaxes you.

Make the most of the weather we are having at the moment.

Re: Misplaced Bottle....................

I have a quietish road I know well, and when memories of spending 5 months in hospital get the better of me, I ride there. 16 miles each way, and a mix of bends, straights, village and rural. Coming back is always more relaxed and confident than the way out.... Works for me....
