Since May (3months) , my insurance premium has risen about £200.And as such, i am looking for ways to reduce my premium, Each website offers discunts for various devices, Dick locks, Ground anchors and Thatcham approved alarms. Each item will carry a value for money vs insurance benefit reductions. What devices would you recommend and what kind of discount have you been offered or heard about. Any Suppliers or recommendations most welcome. |

Smartwater and Datatag or datatool marking, reduced my Insurance premium by £60. I have gone for smartwater as this comes with a certificate which insurance companies will use as proof of use. So this alone has paid for itself. Just looking for a locking device now. Shame HD Alarms are not a recognised alarm in the UK |

Any type of Thatham approved locking device. Oxford do a comprehensive range of approved insurance devices. They do a bronze, silver, gold range of devices. Go for Gold range. The more devices you have on the bike the harder its supposed to stop anybody nicking them. But watch out some insurances will make you pay an additional premium if your bike gets nicked and has not got the approve insurance devices on them. soon you will need another saddle bag for all the security devices when you go out. Remeber If the theiving b........s want your bike bad enough they will take it regards any amount of security devices. |

| Re: Approved Insurance Devices
Just read this thread and am now in the process of trying to get a good price for insurance. When filling out on-line forms, they always ask what security devices are fitted to your bike, then, scroll down through a long list of devices to find the relevant one. No mention of the factory fitted HD alarm/imobliser, so you leaxe the field blank and your quote goes up. Has anyone any idea of the name of the HD factory fitted device? Veggie |

I remind people that no questions on H-D alarms should be asked here (as is stipulated in the section header). Either consult with a dealer or ask these kinds of questions through PMs.

I bought some stuff from Tony at elitesecuritysupplies.com ( or .co.uk) cant remember which - not cheap, but as far as I can make out Almax chains are the best you can get, and when coupled with a squire padlock they hopefully will deter all but the most prepared thief. I have it running thru a ground anchor. Tony runs the website, but is always on the end of a phone too which is reassuring. Almax chains arent thatcham or sold secure or any of that stuff, but Im highly suspicious of those ratings anyway. |

Hi There. Almax Series III (16mm Llink diameter) chains are Sold Secure Gold Certificated you can see the certificate on their website : www.almax-security-chains.co.uk All the locks and ground anchors they sell are also Gold. Their Series IV chain (19mm link diameter) is being tested and should be gold cetificated shortly. I E-mailed them a couple of weeks ago about the Series IV and that was their reply. Hope this is of some help. FXSTC Dave.

Dave What do you think of the Almax chains.....Most of the reports i've read say they are the best but in MCN this week they claim it was broken by a pro in less than 20 seconds ---- a bit gutting as along with a lock it cost well over hundred and fifty quid. |

Pete: There's nothing that will provide 100% security for anything! If "they" want it bad enough, they'll get it. Security devices help to keep slightly dishonest people from getting your goods. Better security dvices help to keep moderately dishonest people from getting your goods. You could personally stand by your bike with a shotgun. But, if "they" wanted it bad enough, they'd kill you to get it. Do the best you can afford; get good insurance; and then don't get all bound up in worry about it. |

| Re: Approved Insurance Devices
yeah agreed, but its a bit disheartening to see how easy some of this top shelf stuff can be cut thru. All you can do is put together as many barriers as you can I guess. I have a shotgun too |
