Re: Bikers

You're quite right Brian.I was feeling a bit fragile with all this biker talk.
It's pushing me close to the edge.
I suppose there's a time(and a word) for everything.

even I remember the days of Mods and Rockers with petrol bombs thrown in to the greasers cafe an the battles in the multi story car park and the time when my brother was told to ride the other way but went his way and got the sh!t kick out of him, and yes I use to ride on the back of scooters! but I was just a kid

Re: Bikers

Does it really matter if people think you are a biker or a motorcyclist or a PTW rider or scooterist? As long as you are not beating up grannies, drinking and riding, nicking stuff and all those other negative activities then as long as you are riding something and keeping the spirit alive then thats ok in my book. Re whether you wear patches, look like zz top, an outlaw or a poser or wear full racing leathers then thats down to individual choice and how sensible/fashion concsious you are. Some of it I guess is wanting to look the part and do the tribal thing but then again if you are anything like me, the thought of not wearing some form of protective clothing scares me silly. So I went the sensible route but am slowly purchasing items that I guess would make me look a bit more of the traditional stereotypical Harley Rider. Thankfully modern technology allows me to wear jeans that provide pretty good protection in a spill ( not that I intend having one), so we can have the best of both worlds. Like many here I have been into bikes as long as I could remember and this may be something to do with watching my dad go to work on his Norton Model 50 every day. Or it could be that I was always going to be into bikes anyway, who can tell. I've had 350lc's, gsxr's, z650's and dirtbikes and in my youth rode all year round ( including the snow) to get to work. This was due to necessity (cost) and also the fact that I just love riding. If you really want an answer get a degree in philosophy and social science or suchlike, but I know I'd rather spend the limited time I have on this planet riding my bike, enjoying the buzz and the people I meet as a result.

Re: Bikers

This is a biker

Quote:
Michael Ray Phillips, 54, Kansas City, Kan., left this world on April 22, 2009, after fighting cancer. To honor Mike's love of nature and the outdoors, a celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 25, at Shawnee Mission Park, Shelter #7, between 4 - 8 p.m. Mike was born November 8, 1954, and was a '72 graduate of Washington High School. He attended Wichita State University. He spent most of his adult life exploring and living throughout the United States, working as a mechanical engineer and riding his motorcycle at every opportunity. Many of Mike's favorite memories and best friendships were made through his love of music and motorcycle riding.
His biker friends knew him as " Lumpy " ,
If Lumpy had have won his battle against cancer he would have been at a few HDRCGB rallies this year.

Guess if its likely to be mentioned in your epitaph, your love of motorcycle lifestyle......then you could consider yourself a biker.

If in doubt ......ask a biker .

So right as usual Mike. Being a Biker is a bit like being "Nice" or "Mad". It's just a way for others to describe you rather than a term to describe yourself.
