| Dilemma....
My old sportster has been stripped of all its bling and now looks like the lean bike it always was before I loaded it with lights and other stuff.... I removed the engine protection bars, and now wonder at the possible cost of leaving them off, if I ever drop it. Aesthetically the bike looks fugly with the bars they are large and rectangular not like the bars for the 06 and later models which are more slimmer looking and more oval.... Opinions please...

Dont drop it then.... but seriously, enjoy it as you want it to be, most of us dont have engine bars,(I think my WG would look sh1t with them to be honest) and I know they do a job,but I reckon have it as you want it,...and worry about anything that might happen when or if it happens....and hey probably nothing a region 17 GP couldnt sort out...

If an accident does happen crash bars usually twist the frame, just something to think about.

I much prefer Sportsters set up as Sportsters, ie no engine bars. I've got bars on the Road King and they look right, but a Sportster should be be mean and lean and not weighed down by Big Twin paraphenalia. At least it gives the weedy engine a chance at making some sort of turn of speed! ![]() ![]()

If I were you, I would leave the crash bars off. As Chris says if the worst happens, it's nothing a GP can't fix.
