Exclamation Tidying up our section of the forum.

After a chat at the Dawg last night I thought I might do a bit of 'winter cleaning' on our section of the forum so that people can find things of interest easier and also delete all the old out of date information.

I have deleted some old 2006 chat posts for starters , to see if it worked, and if you are all ok with this I will wade through the 2007 posts and reduce these down. I would assume this would then free up space on the server.

Comments greatfully recieved.

Yep, tottally agree. Lots of old stuff on here, now irrelavent, so a good clean up needed.

As an observation from a Newbie, region 17 has way more posts than most of the others combined, which to an outsider looks like a lot goes on down here....or we all talk a load of waffle

Good luck, gave up trying to read all of them long time ago!

Waffle ,bliddy waffle i always make my posts informative ,interesting and dare i say it mature ,yes there is the odd coccasion when i appear to waffle ,but that is just the perception of other people who may indeed not waffle or even talk bollax .I even go as far as to say that i in my time have become exassipated indeed even a little frustrated, with the working of the written word but sometimes i accept that no bugger understands a word ,so maybe and i say that with a hint of whatever it is ,now and again i may waffle ,but never do i ramble ,or babble or much else that ends in 'le ,.i bid you bon voyage and a pleasant trip till i hit the keyboards again

Re: Tidying up our section of the forum.

Update - all threads from 2006 and 2007 now removed. Will remove 2008 up to November so that we just have a years worth of threads on here.

Re: Tidying up our section of the forum.

By deleting a lot of old chit chat threads, mainly about old events, we have definately freed up space on the server.

However it would appear we have now lost pole position in the web listings.

So I have stopped for the time being.

Re: Tidying up our section of the forum.

The only trouble deleting all old posts is you then loose the uploaded photos that can be used again...Like the jpegs and gifs and artwork that have been in old posts that can be used again as the pics were live.

As far as saving space on the server it really doesn't matter as we never delete any old post/threads in any of the other sections to save space even including the Beer Tent! Because hardly any space is saved. In fact none is saved as you can only 'soft delete them' (they were still there...just unavailable to click onto)... the small amount of space that is saved is when they are permanently deleted by me or Roger.

Personally in my region I don't delete any even the oldest ones because they can be of interesting reading to a perspective new member looking at the past history/rideouts meet, photos etc etc.

Any that would put the region in a bad light to a newbie looking in I would delete but have not had to do that in nearly 7 years.

Re: Tidying up our section of the forum.

Not talking about deleting anything interesting ie photos etc ,just same old ones with little on them .Like the dawg thursday meets ,or posts about going to a show etc where little was added .Not many people want to read a thread where 1 said are you going ,another said yes ,and 2 others said no ,and the grand contribution was that .Then its not worth keeping on here is it

Pics etc should always stay ,as with interesting threads .
