new biker in glasgow needs advice..cheers

its no the south of scotland but there was no other option
Im looking at buying my first own harley. Ive been around them a few years as my old man is a fan and has had softails, glides and a deuce.
I have been savin my pennies and am now looking at one of two models.
Nightrod special and 08 nighttrain.

I love the new technology on the nightrod and think it looks far more evil than the rocker which screams 40year old business rep family man who wants to play ghostrider at the weekend. It seems like it has a lot of kit straight off the showroom floor and with a few bits and bobs i think it would be an awesome all rounder.

The nightrain i love for its old school lines and thumping engine. Its simple and badass and looks awesome in black. Id maybe put a 240 on there and some slashcuts but thats about it. Its also a good bit cheaper than a nightrod.

I havent owned a harley before so im looking for advice from experienced owners on what would be the better buy. The bike is going to be used a lot. Im not into letting things lie in the garage all week.

hi there and welcome. i have my first harley (fatboy) and find it very easy to ride i also toyed with the idea of a nightrod special. nip into west coast Harley-Davidson & Buell Glasgow - West Coast Harley Davidson and try a few they are very helpful and will point you in the right direction. (thats what i did). it depends what you want i ride most days i am off and as long as you keep on top of the cleaning keeping the fatty looking good aint a problem so dont let chrome put you off. enjoy looking

howye m8, both bikes are good in different ways, m8, basically its down to you what you want, as the man above says nip into west coast ,have a sit on and maybe see if you could have a test run on both, my personal opinion is the nighttrain, the v-rod probally beats it hands down on braking ,speed, and everythin else, but to me its to modern ,but i can appreciate all the good aspects of it, id have the night train, pm, mac, he has a night train and see what he thinks of that ,and pm, willie-m, he has the new v-rod,you pays yer money ye takes yer bike

jerome & dan - Cheers for the feedback. The fatty is a great bike jerome. Gotta love those twin headlamps on the 08 model.
I agree with you dan, i prefer the old school style and motor that the night train offers and i think its a great bike to add to. Noone keeps their bikes stock for long and even though the train is a great standard package, i know i could do so much with it.
I ll speak to colin at west coast and see if he has any nightrods and nighttrains about to test.

You say you would just put a 240 wheel in and some slashcuts.............if thats really all then go for it. BUT if you are gonna to upgrade with staged tuning, other bits etc, then why not an older bike (rather than new) thats probably had the work done, you can style to your taste and not break the bank doing it. I looked at the nightrain a couple of years back but settled on an older softail which i have evolved into a nice bike for me. Just my thoughts. Good luck whatever you decide.

realbark - If i decide 100% on the nighttrain then id probably do as you suggest but if i prefer the nightrod special i think id probably go new as it has a couple features like the 240 rear that i prefer and they seem to be quite rare in the showrooms. Plus ive known the guys at west coast for a fair bit through family and id hope theyd do me a good deal haha.
