Talking Yet another great BBQ!!

How very fortuitous ........ considering the barn was an impulse buy and only went up on Wednesday and Thursday it was worth its weight in gold over the weekend ...... BBQ went ahead and we all stayed dry ....... apart from the kids who couldn't resist spending the evening on the trampoline!!

Many thanks to all of the nearly 40 of you that attended and traveled from all over the region, both north and south, not forgetting the intrepid Cornish folk!! Thanks also to all of you kind enough to send your apologies for not being able to attend for one reason or another. I hope those of you unwell or suffering from Brazil Nut poisoning are well on the road to recovery. If it is of any consolation the consensus during the evening was that we have another weekend BBQ sometime in August or early September thus giving everyone another chance to attend. How about 'Jan's Pimm's on the Lawn BBQ'?

The food went down a storm (how apt!!), next time I think we might need 2 turkeys, half a pig and a bucket of Chris's mushroom and truffle sauce (I've never seen anything disappear so fast). Special thank to Chris for doing the BBQ cooking all evening and for having the foresight of doing the sack of spuds in the fire....scrummy!! Thanks to Mrs DD and Little Sue for your help in the kitchen and making an endless supply of tea for me and to Mrs and Mrs DD, Chris and Sue and Chippy for tidying up on Sunday.

I am glad you all had a good time and can't wait for the next one. Now I only have one problem ..... Now we know what a great place the barn is for a party where do I put all the stuff that it was built to store

Re: Yet another great BBQ!!

You'll have to charge next time, so you can get barn number 2. Sounds like you all had a lot of fun despite the weather being unkind . . I certainly liked the idea of the sack of spuds
Did you have any mud wrestling or mud pie competitions ?

Looking forward to the next one already . . PIMMS is very posh, like that idea

Re: Yet another great BBQ!!

Glad it all went well... First one we have missed for a few years and hopefully the last.

You and Chris always put on a very good BBQ. Still can't believe that you don't charge, it must cost a fortune?

What about a charity donation, if you won't take anything for it...
worth thinking about.

Re: Yet another great BBQ!!

Sorry Lass we didn't come. We've been so pissed off by the weather this year that the thought of our wine being diluted by rain and soggy buns put us off! If we'd know that you had the barn we would have come. See you this weekend.
Is this going to become a Cornish version of Mikes Farm Party??? Could be a winner, and we wouldn't mind making a contribution to the cost.

Cheers

Re: Yet another great BBQ!!

What a great time Jenny and I had at Jan and Chris’s Bar-B-Q. It was Good to meet Chippy, Chris and Sue Yea and see the Callington ‘Paragraph’ and the KHR (especially now we’re FOKHeR’s)! Yeah………. we’ve got the T-Shirts to prove it!

The food was great, the company was as good and the weather typically English! Jenny was still wearing her ‘Guns and Roses’ Wellies when we went into town today (well she was born in Devon, bless her).

The Pimms went down well, so how about Croquet on the lawn for the next one, I could wear my cricket jumper and white flannels!

Thanks again to Jan and Chris for putting us up from Friday to Sunday, feeding us and watering us, I’m just annoyed the kids wouldn’t let me on the trampoline!

Oh, and thanks to Paul Daw for providing the Port-a-loo, I did my best to fill it up, so I ain’t “so full of sh1t now”!

Sorry about the lack of photo's the Paparazzi got p1ssed, and his photo's didn't 'cut the mustard'!

Apart for this one of some guy who seems to be everywhere that I am!
I think that I may have a Stalker! He looks very suspicious to me!

Re: Yet another great BBQ!!

TK, your lucky this year due to events and other stuff, plus we have lots left over and lots of requests there is going to be another BBQ on the weekend of the 9th of August. This time it will co inside with the Calstock bike show.
As for charging people to attend It has always been both Jan’s and my decision to cater for both our friend and families out of our own pockets, to open up Jan’s property for camping for the weekend free of charge. Not everything in life has to cost. Usually after the River Dart we are offered any excess food to help toward the BBQ and this year was the first time it was not offered.
The next BBQ will be a bring your own as we have only burgers and poultry to offer. Please contact Jan so as we don’t get an Excess of anything.

Again thanks to everyone that braved the weather to make it a great weekend.
Chris

Re: Yet another great BBQ!!

We can bring the Cheddar, 'afterburn', Stilton, Pimms and Newcastle Brown Ale again

But you'll have to provide the Truffles.........................they were great!
