Beach BBQ info for July 11th

You're probably aware that the Solstice Beach BBQ has been moved to Saturday July 11th to enable us to try and find a beach with camping facilities close by (presumably in case we all get pissed on left-over cans of Boddingtons from the Rally).

Well - at the moment I'm struggling to find a campsite that's even remotely close to a beach that will accept groups.

I've spoken with the manager of Blackpool Sands and they definitely don't allow any camping or overnight stays, and they have very strict rules about BBQ's too.

I've found three possibles :-

1. Karrageen Camping Park which has a 1 mile walk to Hope Cove beach in South Devon, near Bolberry

2. Braddicks Holiday Centre which is near the beach at Westward Ho, near Bideford . . but they only have a small area for tents.

3. Coombe View Farm Campsite which is 1.5 miles from the beach at Branscombe near Beer.

Can I remind everyone that we still have permission to use the grass area directly behind the beach at Broadsands in Paignton. I was also informed that we can have a BBQ on the small beach called Fairy Cove which is next to Paignton Harbour. It's only small and there are no toilet facilities there.
(Waterside Park at Broadsands does not have camping facilities unfortunately, only caravan hire).

The other problem we will have is the logistics of getting the BBQ equipment there. Easy at Broadsands, but we'd probably have to use disposable BBQ trays if we go camping.

Anyway - these are just thoughts for discussion . . so comments would be appreciated, especially if we're going to get something organised in time.

Hi Steve,
I don;t know any of the above locations and i;m sure you locals will get the best possible. Due to this now being a two day event or at least one day and a night, what to you think about maybe having the bbq in the early afternoon rather than the evening as planned and then we could mossy on down to the beach afterwards its just a thought and i do think toilet facilities are a must after 30 cans of boddies each. anyone else got any thoughts perhaps a beach is not the answer???

I think you have hit the nail on the head Brian... Although the idea of a beach BBQ is a good one, the reality is that if you are going to drink a lot of beer at the same time you do need toilets and somewhere to sleep it off.

So my suggestion is that we look for a camp site near the coast and have a BBQ there. Then afterwards (or before) those that want to amble down to the beach, can.

Yep I'm with Dave on this one (sorry Brian), this sounds like the best idea

Re: Beach BBQ info for July 11th

Paul has managed to find a campsite near Bude that has their own private beach within walking distance. The cost will be £12 per night per pitch. More details will follow as soon as I have them.

Paul will be taking his Land Rover with all the beer's in and we'll probably buy the large disposable BBQ trays to make things easy to carry down to the beach.

If you can let Reps know (or post on this thread) if you intend to party 'cos they would like an idea of the numbers of tents etc before we go.
