Re: Evaporative Emissions

That's OK then it's a thick book and should keep her busy bed time reading for a while, when she's finished there's always the Electrical Diagnostic Manual and the Parts book too!

So, why did you have it fitted? That stuff's normally only fitted to bikes sold in California.

It'd make doing the stage 1 a bit more tricky. I can't wait to replace the air cleaner with something decent so I can get the oil blowby that comes through the crankcase breather out of my carb and not have it burnt along with the fuel.

If so your VIN number will start with a 1 not a 5 as International models.

This means various components are different to International and US domestic bikes.

EG Air filter & Carb set up an a few other minor bits, fortunately the cams are the same.

Junk it, you don't need it and the bike will run better without all the emission controls.
Sorry, I hadn't seen this post (or Mike's) before I posted mine. That'll teach me to read a thread properly before wading in!

Re: Evaporative Emissions

(rare foray down south)

Since, I think, the early 1980s all models to be sold in California only had to be specially equipped with canisters to trap emissions to meet the anti-pollution controls notoriously strict in that car-ravaged state. AND they had especially lame camshafts.

Do *non-California* Harleys have those canisters now?

Re: Evaporative Emissions

No - but I mis-read Johns NEW Sportster Manual On closer inspection, the Manual does state that the emissions bit only apply to Californian models, and John mistook the audible alarm for the canister....LOL - we are both rather daft! That's why we get on so well
