Cool Hullorerr Southerners

The family & I will be visiting your fair county from the 4th July 'til the 11 July. We will be staying at the Combe Haven site at St Leonards near Hastings.

Does anyone know what this site is like? On the website it actually looks fine, but was just wanting to know if anyone has some info?

Would also like to know of any family days out that are happenning, in the area, around that time (Rob 11, Katie 9)?

Or do you have a region meet in that week?

Cheers for any info folks, hope to see some of you around & about during our stay.

Rich

Re: Hullorerr Southerners

We have a meet at the Woolpack pub in Herstmonceaux on Wednesday 8th July.
As for the site etc. I live along the road a bit in Eastbourne so cant answer that question

Brighton is, of course, a good place to visit but parking is murder.
Rye is nice and quaint and nearby to Hastings
Loads of pretty villages inland especially Alfriston

Guess it all depends on what sort of things you all like

Re: Hullorerr Southerners

Hi Rich

I assume you will be travelling down here by car.

Hastings is an historic town but it does have some interest for the kids. Once you have exhausted the facilities at the Haven site a trip into the old town of Hastings is worth while. These places would interest the family: see Discover Hastings - Great family attractions in 1066 country

A short trip up the road to Battle would enable you to visit the place where the English got a bloody nose by the French in 1066: see 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield : East Sussex : South East : Find a property by map : Properties : Days Out & Events : English Heritage
This might be a little dry for the kids but the street cred they would get from being where the English had a good hiding might swing the day.

On Wednesday you could then head out to Herstmonceux for the afternoon and visit the old Royal Greenwich Observatory, now a science centre: See The Observatory Science Centre
This is a super place and there are lots of hands-on things to do.
By arranging your visit carefully you could then make your way into the village and find the Woolpack, have some grub maybe and then the Coasters will turn up for their Wednesday meeting and it would be great to see you and the family.

If you decide to have a trip to Brighton the 'Cannonball Run' finishes there on the Friday: see The Cannonball Run Europe 2009 - What's On - Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxon, Isle of W - What's On July – What's On this Weekend, July What's On, July Events, Events in July South What's on, things to do, places to

Apart from that there are stately homes and castles but I dont think you will have time for that.

Maybe a meet up in a pub for a bit of banter (posh word for bollox) would work out ok during your week.

Rich

as someone born and bred and still living in Hastings would suggest the following:

Sea Life centre (Hastings Old Town). Well worth a visit.

Smugglers adventure - The Caves - West Hill Hastings. Good fun

Both East and West Hill Cliff railways if they are running.

Alexandra park - has playground for the kids.

Hastings Country park - area of outstanding Scientific Interest - lovely walks and rambles through Ecclesbourne Glen and Fairlight Glen and along the Cliffs.

Fishing Quarter - Hastings Old Town - nice old boats and good fresh fish/crab/lobster etc.

Hastings seafront has the standard 'fun-fair' attractions if you like that sort of thing? Dunkin Do-nuts are a must

For really good Fish and Chips - The Blue Dolphin (end of High Street in the Old Town) eat in or take away but be prepared to queue

For Ice Creams - Doms Ice cream - Best in Hastings.

Avoid Central St leonards - full of unpleasant people and nothing to see anyway.

If you want any more info - don't hesitate to drop me a pm......hope you enjoy your stay

Oh yes - meant to say - if you want to pop in for a cuppa drop me a line

The above was unfair....

Depending on the age of the kids.. its Brilliant, its designated an 'all action site' loads of activities to keep even the most hard to please kid occupied.

If you have smaller kids its brilliant... (Tiger Club)

My other ex partner is a travel agent and she stayed with her grandchildren last year...

Even if the weathers not at its best the kids will be entertained and off of your hands...

Re: Hullorerr Southerners

I stayed there a few years ago. The facilities are pretty good the only down side is it's built on the side of a quite steep hill.
