does your hand go numb?

when im riding i develope a numb sensation in my right hand first my thumb then the index finger
this doesnt get any better as time goes on
it certainly get's worse in the cold
ive adopted *shelltex gloves that are nice and warm
they help but dont cure it
quite simpley the vibration through the bar's can result in vibration white finger
can result in the permanent loss of sensation in the fingers
this isnt good it can be a crippling condition
you can alieviate it by changing the way you grip the throttle no end of tricks like locking it off and such like which possibley could be dangerous
i know we all do it but its bad
I found this for less than a fiver
makes life a lot easier
doesnt cure it but changes the way you can grip and means you can ride in greater comfort for longer use the palm of your hand or thumb to apply the throttle
fits in seconds
tried it for 2 months and it does work

£5 got to be worth a try

Re: does your hand go numb?

Take the throttle off the bars and pump the handle bar full of silicon sealer till they are full, will stop you feeling the vibration, as the silicon absorbs the vibration, used to race enduro bikes and used this tip then,Rode british championships eight hour races it used to get that bad that you could not hold the bars.A lad called John Deaking who also rode for KTM at the time told me about it.(sadly got killed while riding at the Dakar for BMW).

Re: does your hand go numb?

These Kuryakyn Iso-Grips are a more expensive option but definitely worth considering

I had some on my last bike & the basic grips are good for some isolation from vibes. The "throttle boss" attachment is about £10 I think & works on the same principle as the one you've got but looks a bit nicer - assuming you're into chrome bit & bobs ;)

Re: does your hand go numb?

I have this problem with some of my fingers going numb,i find it worse when riding my Dyna and also on my old FLHS both rubber mounted .I only get this problem occasionaly on my Shovel [not rubber mounted].I mentioned this to the nurse at my last checkup as i was worried about white finger, she checked me out every thing was ok ,she told me the numbness was more than likely caused by traping the blood supply to the nerves in your hands. My Shovel has apes ,both the Dyna and Flhs have flatter bars.
Ihope this has been of some help

Re: does your hand go numb?

what you describe sounds very much like carpal tunnel syndrome. there is a cartilage sheath in your wrist that carries nerves through it, the sheath becomes inflamed and causes loss of sensation

Re: does your hand go numb?

I get this sometimes. I put it down to gripping the bars too tight, maybe occasionally riding a bit tense. It seems to ease off if i lighten my grip.
