Easy replacement of mudguard stud for seat mounting bolt

This is a pretty simple one. Just posted it to try and help someone out on one of the US boards and thought it might be helpful to put it here too. Apologies for my fake Americanese.

"For what it's worth you don't need to fiddle with anything to change one of these studs, you just thread a longish length (couple of feet) of reasonably stiff wire though from above and out under the side of the fender, slip it through the hole in the stud and tie a knot then pull it back through until the top of the stud pops through the fender hole. You can then grab it with the tips of finger and thumb, twist it until the protrusion is seated in the notch in the fender that stops the stud from turning when you tighten the seat mounting screw in it and then pop in the little plastic clip that holds the stud in place. It's a three minute jobs, tops."

Hope that helps someone.

Cheers

Mike

Re: Easy replacement of mudguard stud for seat mounting bolt

Hi - the way the local stealer suggested was using a long plastic cable tie - insert the stud onto it and push it into the mudguard from beneath - the plastic will not damage the paintwork. I've got to say its the best value and most help I have had yet from Chapel Ash Harley !

Yeah, same principle. I use earth wire. The insulation stops scratching, but its easier to get a long length through the hole and around and out under the mudgaurd and it will stay where you bend it if necessary.

Cheers
