Always check your nut before you go for a ride!

Just a little tip for any Softail Deluxe owners with the screen fitted.

On our recent trip up to Scotland, I lost a nut! It was the centre acorn nut on the screen which must have vibrated off. I did hear a bang and thought I must have hit a big stone which hit the mudguard or screen.

Fortunately, the screw cannot come out as it is part of the trim behind the H-D badge.

OK, it's not anything major, but the interesting thing was, when we stopped at Edinburgh H-D to buy a replacement, as soon as Steve said that I'd lost a nut, the parts guy said 'Is it the centre one behind the badge?' He's already had to replace a few others, which is quite surprising as I haven't seen that many Deluxes about with the screen fitted.

On the financial side, cost of the replacement nut was 90p + VAT, so it won't break the bank! Part number is 94004-90T and it's a 1/4 - 20 unc, so I'm told.

Steve has now put some loctite on it, but I was checking my nut regularly all the way back from Edinburgh, so don't forget to check yours!
