| Beginners Guide to Buying Oil-seals Just had a crash course and 2 sets of oil seals returned as they were incorrect I thought it maybe helpful to list how to order oil seals- for beginners. Oil seals are measured (& usually stamped on the face of the seal) by a set of three numbers first the inside diameter second the outside diameter and third the width. Either metric: - For example- Inside Dia: 100mm Outside Dia: 120mm Type: R23 Width: 12mm Or Imperial Inside Dia: 3/8 Outside Dia: 3/4 Type: R21 Width: 1/2 There is an additional number that donates whether the seal is Metal cased double lipped etc as per:- R21 Rubber covered oil seal to suit standard applications R23 Rubber covered oil seal with dust lip R4 Metal cased oil seal R6 Metal cased oil seal with dust lip R5 Double sprung oil seal Standard Metal cased leather oil seal Hopefully this will give you enough information to order seals with more accuracy than my first two attempts this week This place seamed as good as any to buy all things bearings ans seals from, BearingBoys :: Bearings Online, Ball Bearings, SKF Ball Bearings, FAG Ball Bearings, Roller Bearings |
