Re: Ditch the circlip.............

I'll bet the circlips in the 'bargain box' are too wide to fit in the groove of the pin. Ask me how I found that out. And using an R clip to save 60p?

You missed the point! It's not about saving .60p.

An 'R' clip can be-used more times than a circlip (if you find it when it flies off) PLUS you can take it off much easier especially on the road without circlip pliers.

Re: Ditch the circlip.............

Thanks for the tip Baza, I used a split pin,
found that the R-clip I had was slightly loose
and was worried that it would be liable to drift out.
Could have wired up the end but then it complicates removal.

Re: Ditch the circlip.............

splendid idea that specially as the circlip pliers i bought from the market have only succeeded at scratching the black paint of my lever, but when you mentioned about them flying across the garage it made me think of their alternative name "ping fuckets"

Re: Ditch the circlip.............

Although may i suggest using quality stainless drill bits, unless you want to be in the workshop trying to extract bits of broken drill bits that have welded themselves into the hole you are attempting to drill

so you may ask the question "have you been in the garage Will taking two hours on a ten minute job?"

and the answer is "$%*@ sake of course i have and its not finished yet i now have to buy a new pin for lots of beer vouchers, bollocks to it im buying a mondeo.........."

Re: Ditch the circlip.............

Good idea to put the pivot pin(or any pin ) in with its shoulder top side,if an R pin etc does come out the pivot pin wont just fall out, maybe giving you a bit of time to spot that the R pin etc its missing.

Re: Ditch the circlip.............

That could be a bit risky, if in the unlikely event that the circlip, split pin or R-clip comes loose, if you don't notice it gone you won't be getting any warning at all before it falls out.

Yes it is fitted with the R clip underside.

Re: Ditch the circlip.............

Even better still......

Anyone want to make a fortune? Mass produce lever pins that have a built-in detent ball, like the one on a socket extension. That way the pin could be removed easily by hand but wouldn't accidentally come out on its own.
