Ditch the circlip.............

Thought I would oil my clutch cable......... Name: PICT0001.JPG

and as I was taking out the circlip it broke. So I get a couple of new ones in case one flies around the garage when I put the lever pin back in.

Was given a good idea from club member Jumbo at Watford's FullBore Choppers.

Drill through the pin and either fit a key ring or as I suggested a *R* clip.
This can then be easily removed on the road or for future maintenance.

*R* clip costs 50p and the H-D circlip a staggering £1.10p each!

Serves you right

You should get a bloody job then you wouldn't have to try to think of something to fill your day

Good idea though............

Re: Ditch the circlip.............

Not that the MoCo are profiteering but I just found a box of 285 circlips (or are they snap rings) for less than a tenner.-e-bay-

Admittedly there not made in the USA or individually wrapped in a bag with a nice bar and shield on, and instructions on how to fit in 15 languages but they do the job.

But do you carry circlip pliers in your tool roll?

With the *R* clip you can undo easily.

Tool Roll? What's that then? I thought that with these new Harleys you didn't need to get your hands dirty. Doesn't everyone just call the fourth emergency service then?

Having a hydraulic clutch I don't bother with that sort of thing anyway

Or you could just weld a washer on and then take a hacksaw in your 'toolroll' just in case

In my shovel tool kit I've got enough tools to dismantle the clutch so the answeer is yes. I also carry a small multimeter to do road side trouble shooting on the electricts a full set of bulbs and plugs as well as a timing rotor bolt as Ihave had one shear in the past. The kit weighs a total of about 6 lbs wth spanners for all nuts & bots on teh bike as well as a small shifter, but in the hard pannier it vanishes. I can also hot wire the bike if the handlebar or dash cabling throws its hand in.

Endless joys of owning a non computerised bike!

BR,

S.
