I have commented on a number of occasions here on HDH that changing the high factory gearing on Harleys is a cheap way of improving performance. I have a SE 21T compensator (crankshaft) sprocket kit on my Dyna, which substantially reduces gearing (down from 25T) and gives a worthwhile improvement in performance. I have recently discovered that Baker, of gearbox fame, make alternative sprockets, but explain the benefits in interesting terms. Read more on their website here. What my change gives is a 19% increase in torque at the rear wheel! Consider what tuning is needed to achieve the same benefit.

And if you really want to play with sprocket teeth numbers, here is an easy way to see the differences.

| Re: Increased Torque through Reduced Gearing. simple mathematics along with a 19% increase in noise and vibration which is why harley over gear the bikes in the first place to sneak thru the emission testing
