GPS routes

I dont know how many of you have got a GPS ,Garmin, Tomtom whatever or how many of you use it ,i do know that most dont use their GPS to its full potenial,me included.I,m lucky enough to have a Garmin zumo 550 and i swear by it ,and at it ,but i,m never without it,not because i dont know where i am ,or because i cant use a map and compass(ex scout leader expert [i]map and compass reader ) but because it records where you have been, even if you made up a crackin route you dont always stick to it,and lets face it what looks good on a map or software can in reality be bit of a let down and vice versa .
With this in mind i thorght it might be a good idea if thoes with Sat Navs posted up some of their better ride outs or ones they enjoyed, most tomtom and garmin formats are interchangeable with a bit of jiggery pokery and you can even post in google map format .eml i think but .gpx format is probably best.
Anyway to get things started i will have to convince webmasters that the relevent files are safe so that we can post and share .In the mean time post up what you think

Re: GPS routes

But you have to put the work in on your computer to get the best out of it. I spent hours putting in waypoints for our recent tour of Route 66. Result! Never lost (OK we turned round a few times when I missed signs or got caught up in traffic) and we were able to faithfully follow the olde route 66 all the way from Chicago to LA. An added benefit of the Zumo is the bluetooth capability built into the unit. If you buy a comms pack for your helmet (eg MotoSonic) you can get your mobile phone to work via the Zumo. It's awesome. We were ringing ahead to the hotels we had prebooked in the States to confirm our arrival time. How cool is that? Note that we used American Garmin maps that we bought via the internet.
Hope that helps - buy one!

Re: GPS routes

I took my TomTom Rider to Spain this year. Whilst we would just head off towards somewhere each day, the GPS really came into its own when we decided that we'd had enough for the day and it was time to head towards a campsite.

Simply selecting "Camping Sites", "Near Present Location" was extremely helpful and cut hours off the buggering around that can happen towards the end of a day.

Re: GPS routes

I bought a Garmin on the spur of the moment in Spain because we had our old one stolen. Didn't even bother claiming as the car was not broken onto!

It's the Nuvi 200W and has preloaded all of Europe P.O.I. + safety cameras (makes me larf that).

I have just won off fleebay for £31.00

...and this one is already more than what I paid.
