Touring France and Italy 2008

May be of use, we would return to everywhere we stayed except the last place.

Started with a ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre

LD Lines network– Ferries to France | Cheap Ferries to France, UK, Ireland

Book early if you want a cabin, good for securing bikes.

First stop Chalon SS Saone France

Site créé avec 1&1 TopSite Express - Accueil

Short walk to town centre and river. We had problems with the immobilisers at services near to here, sorted by shielding receivers.

Next stop Aoste in Italy.

LE PAGEOT ad Aosta | Hotel ad Aosta

Short walk to the town centre. We took the road up to the Glaciers between France and Italy, not for the faint hearted. Did not fancy coming back down that way so we went through the Mont Blanc Tunnel, cost a fortune.

Next stop Vicenza.

Hotel Vicenza | Accomodation in Vicenza | Hotel Continental

Short walk to town centre and train station. From here we took a train to Venice and Verona.

Welcome to www.italiarail.co.uk

Next stop Lizzano in Belvedere

Albergo Nappini - BENVENUTI! - WELCOME!

Incredible place on the side of a Valley, we were the only guests in the Hotel. Short walk to town and a Deli that sold what I can only descibe as a " pork scratchings cake"

Next stop, via Pisa, Civitavecchia.

Bed & Breakfast CASAMICA - Civitavecchia (Rome) - Infoline +39 0766 31182

We had intended to get the train into Rome, but after 40 degrees every day the sea was so inviting.

Ferry to Cagliari Sardinia.

Tirrenia di Navigazione s.p.a.

Pain in the butt to deal with but it all worked out in the end. Could not care less attitude to securing the bikes, so take your own tie downs as there are only odd bits of rope on ferry.

Spent the day on a beach then rode to Lunamatrona.

Home EN

Never seen a breakfast like it, Harley Bar opposite, although we only realised after looking at engine parts in the bar. Only guests staying.

Next stop La Calletta

HOTEL RISTORANTE L'ARAGOSTA

Short walk to town and beach but we were the only guests again

Ferry to Bonifacio Corsica.

Moby - Traghetti Sardegna, Corsica e isola d'Elba - offerte speciali, prenotazioni online, orari, prezzi

Typical German efficiency when booking but we met the most obnoxious copper ever at the embarkation port. Eventually we were allowed to board.

Leaving Bonifacio port is very steep and twisting, tried not to catch up with the other traffic. We then stayed in Sartene

• charming hotel La Villa Piana three stars in Sartène south corsica - official web site

Nice infinity swimming pool overlooking the valley.

We then rode north through the centre of Corsica, following valley's with shear mountain on one side of the road and a shear drop to the river on the other. We then stayed in Calacuccia

hotel niolu - Calacuccia - Hotel CORSE - L' acqua viva

A Sunday morning ride around the north of the island and down the east coast to Aleria

3 Stars Hotel l' Atrachjata, Aleria, Corsica

Short distance to beach and bars

Ferry to Marseille.

Southern Ferries - SNCM Ferries, Trasmediterranea, Comanav, Tunisia Ferries, Algerie Ferries

Dealt with SNCM London agents, no problem booking but still no help when securing bikes.

Short ride through the Camargue to Aigues Mortes

Mona Lisa - Hotel - Royal Hôtel - AIGUES MORTES - Presentation -

Nice Hotel but to far to walk to the Citadel of Aigues Mortes.

Next stop Gorses

Hotel Colombie

Not the easiest of places to find but well worth the effort, the roads around here are made for bikes

Next stop Bussiere Pointevine.

ROUTE 66 HOTEL, FRANCE...Motorbike Touring - Motorcycle / Biker Friendly Accommodation in Europe, France - www.route66hotel.com, relais motards

Then back to Le Havre and ferry home.

Three weeks travelling 3500 miles in June/July at 40 degrees C. 2009 is already booked
