Re: Sturgis south dakota

i love touring the black hills and visiting before after and during the rally. are you headed to the midwest states during the summer? If you like a good time go during the rally which is the first week of August each year. If you would rather tour and have a quiet vacation go towards late august or early september. The temps are still above 80 and the attractions are still open.

We take day trips to Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower and then always visit Deadwood.

Re: Sturgis south dakota

My wife & I toured the region with some friends in 2004, we actualy got married in Sturgis. although We did it a few days after the rally, on the plains the temps were still up in the 80's but make sure you have foul weather gear as the weather can change very quickly. we got the bikes fro Sioux falls rode across to Sturgis taking in all the sights en route stopped off in dead wood did the bad lands and rode on to Devil's tower . From there we went over Beartooth pass to yellow stone park and then back via mount Rushmore to Sioux Falls going over the pass was feking cold and they had their fist snow fall in Yellowstone when we wrere there . We did the trip in early September. Fully recommend it.

R,

Simon.

Re: Sturgis south dakota

I was last at Sturgis in 1993! On a big trip out of Denver, but I bet it ain't changed that much in the intervening years. As stated you gotta do Mt. Rushmore, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, the Badlands etc. etc.
But you can find some quiet and enchanting places on your travels. You'll find flyers for everything, from panning for gold, (its still being mined in the Black Hills), to going out back of a gunshop and blasting off Uzi's, AK 47's, M16's etc: (just gotta pay for the bullets)!
Remember Sturgis is a tiny town, in a vast area , not like the more 'compact' Daytona and 'stuff' is more spread out, but as the roads are great and scenic, its worth the rides.
More than enough camping in the surrounding areas of Sturgis, but accomodation thin on the ground, we were 40 miles from Sturgis, so book it as early as possible. But again you're not going to spend all you time there, you'll be out riding.
Go for it, I've got memories that will last me a lifetime.

Dave
