France 09

Me and Linda are hoping to spend about 10 days (if we are lucky) going across France from Calais to Chamonix returning via Paris for our 5th Wedding anniversary on the 2 July.
Linda agreed to have a biking holiday so as it took in some lakes and mountains hence Chamonix.
We are leaving around 3rd week in June to return 1st week in July.
Any info on biker friendly places to stay (including camping sites), Fed Rallys that we can drop in on, how hard french cops are on loud pipes especially as we are travelling close to the French/Swiss border, and any hints tips etc would be greatly appeciated.
I have done a little bit of Biking in Europe and a lot of driving, but looking to have a great time with minimal hassle (arn't we all). Oh and on the cheapAlthough I guess things in France aint so cheap these days

Can definitely recommend Les Ballastieres B & B Website, owned by club members Paul & Sue - Sussex Coasters. Very friendly place. have drying room and workshop if needed. An hour and ten from Calais.

Hotel Formule 1 - Search an hotel in France

They are nearly everywhere, cheap, clean and reasonably secure parking, booking not usually needed and in commercial areas with other hotels and restaraunts. There are other chains as well! Room is around 40 euro a night.

Cops don't care about noise, they do about speed and they are not nice, cash up front or bye bye bike. Speed cameras are getting way too common.

Camping is ok, sites are everywhere, but I cannot be bothered with all the kit needed.

If you see my earlier post (South of France) he has 12 acres and bikes and can be emailed direct. His name is Kev. He's about 50 minutes away from Chamonix or wherever it is you're going.

If you need more details PM me.

If not, have fun anyway

Re: France 09

Hi, Formule one are great and all over the place. They can book up early, also nearby restaurants will close early 8:30? These are chain restaurants but usually good. Stayed in lots, all good & cheap but are on the outskirts of town.
Also had some great finds riding in to Centreville and asking at hotels. These were more in "touristy" towns. Very good, very cheap and very French. The plus with these is you can walk to a wider varity of bars/restaurants.
Take a phrase book if your French is rusty(sh1te) like mine, the effort is well worth the rewards.
Bon chance
Rit
