| Want to Tour Austria/Italy - save time
Something we've picked up on from our Austrian friends is a way to save time slogging it down the Autobanns if your traveling from the North of the UK. Get and overnight ferry to Rotterdam and then travel to Dusseldorf. From here you can catch the car train to a significant amount of southern Europe cities. Get on at 7pm and get off 6-7am. Big milage down while you sleep! Saves you time and wear and tear on those tyres. After all you don't want to wear them out on the autobann - just on those luverly mountain roads. The earlier you book the cheaper it is. The only tip is to eat before you get on the train and then take beer and breakfast on with you! Means you get a couple of extra days where you want.

Rotterdam (Europoort ferry terminal) to Dusseldorf is around 175 miles, mostly on good motorways. We recently travelled in that direction and got clear of the port by 10am. We also took a diversion to see the windmills at Kinderdijk and travelled some of the minor roads in the area. Very scenic. This website enlarges on Dodzi's suggestion and this one gives an alternative look at the services available.
