Eurocamping

About 10 years ago, me and the wife used to ride all across Europe - camping at bike only sites. Then we went off to live in South America, had kids and have returned to see how much has changed.

I was very saddened to see that De Blekken Pot in Belgium had closed, it was a brilliant, cheap and fun site. Big Steve was a fantastic host.

There's been more changes as sites have suffered changes of ownership - Route 99, near Clermond Ferrand, has nose-dived. When we used to visit there it was maintained to a high standard but Vim has sold it on to French owners who have let it fall. I was there two weeks ago: broken showers, broken toilets, broken sinks. There was only two other bikes there and none of us had much success in getting served drink, food or being made to feel welcome. Despite hedges being planted, the site also suffers from a lack of shade. I suspect, having spoken to other site owners and bikers, that this site will not last as a going concern for much longer - I'd strike it off your lists if I were you.

Lunas continues to be a great campsite for those who want to party late into the night. The lack of shade kills it for me, that and the mosquitos which those far drunker than I seem to be able to ignore

My favourite of the summer is (and always was) Camping Moto Dordogne

The old owners got divorced and the lad running the place became a friend of the bottle. It went downhill, like Route 99 is now doing, but fortunately the new Dutch owners have brought it up to being the best Moto Camping site in France. Bike only camping, but there are tents to rent and some chalets. They welcome you with free beer, the site has many trees offering plenty of shade and people are friendly. There's a pool, ride-outs, activities and a good (if pricey - but that's thanks to the exchange rate) place to eat. Situated in a beautiful part of France - it is a must.

Re: Eurocamping

If anyone goes to Camping Moto Dordogne then take time to pop into Herve's bar: Le Bar H-D for a cool beer.

Find it here from the site: route
