| Texas Trip (or any other USA state!)
Greetings one & all. Trying to arrange a trip to the USA where 6 of us can rent bikes, & plod around to our hearts content, joining in with the locals on things like:- Drag Racing Rod Runs Bike runs Water parks Rodeos (we are Tourists after all!) Currently looking at basing us in San Antonio, Texas, as it has a Speedway, Six flags theme park, a Speedway, and a cowboy town nearby, (Bandera), but we're happy to go elsewhere. don't want to be involved in the BIG ones though, like Sturgis or Daytone. Anyone out there done anything like this or have any ideas that might assist?

My wife & I are just back from 3 fantastic weeks touring round the US...... by car BUT we met up with some guys & their wives from the New Orleans owners group. e-mailed them beforehand and they couldn't have been more helpful!!Surf the net for the local owners group, trust me, they will be delighted to help!!! Petrol is £1.40 a gallon, bikes & spares? The prices make you weep!! Dealer tees about £14.............. Get in touch with the locals, you'll have a great time!!

HI Charles, Before relocating to the states my wife and I did a few trips (1) around Arizona hiring bikes fom Pheonix taking in the Grand Canyon, Monument valley then down to Tombstone via the painted desert. (2) though Dakota hiring bikes from Sioux falls to sturgis after the rally as I don't like the massive fleece every penny events, over Bear Tooth pass and onto yellow stone park for a couple of days before heading back to the bike hire pont via mount rushmore, devil's peak and the bad lands. A couple of things to consider when travelling over here 1) the place is F**ing massive so day trips from a central base will not let you see much. IMO you will be much better off packing up each night and moving onto another motel/hotel. 2) the weather can change dramatically over a relatively short distance and time so be prepared 3) try and limit your daily riding distances or you'll end up saying that it was a great holiday, ie we rode 8000 miles in 3 weeks but saw feck all. 4) be flexible especialy with a large group 4) always carry water and a Cell phone with you, if you break down in the middle of nowhere you could be there for a while until you can summon help or someone passes by. I have lived in both Socal and currently South florida and can honestly say that the vast majority of Americans are friendly and will go the extra mile to help. Above all , enjoy the trip, its a fantastic country with a lot to see and do. ![]() IF you need any more info please contact either Phil who is our resident NORCAL rep and HD man ( His dealership ( Fulsom) rents Harlies out) or me. Not on a bike, but I'd agree with the sociability bit. Road trips - one exploring New Mexico, another was three weeks in the Deep South plus a number of Florida weeks away. Alabama cops weren't happy with my non-International Venezuelan driving licence...may be worth getting one

I worked just outside San Antonio for 6 months in the '90's-the Riverwalk is a great place to be.

Before you set off you now need to fill in an ESTA, we used to fill in a form on the plane. If you Google ESTA the first site is www.ESTA-online.co.uk , this will cost you £20.00 each. Go to the US Embassy site and it is free. Rip off UK Government in action once again.
