| Rear Brake Concerns
When I ordered my new Dyna, I asked the dealer to change the solid rear disc for a floating disc (see pic). From the wear pattern it appears the pads don't sweep the full braking area on the disc, i.e. cover the holes. Are the pads too small or the disc too big?? I would appreciate any comments. John

I'd say that's how it's meant to be,going on the parts they list. I have no record of the number on your disc,if that's the "Classic Chrome" model,up to 2010,the number was 44822-00(NOT 44826-00),which fitted XL and Dyna, and Softail from 2000 on,and Touring 2000-2007. Your standard disc was a 2000 part number, but calipers changed in 2006,and again in 2008. The standard disc had slots, and one row of holes,so a slight change in pad size or caliper position would go unoticed. The pads are the size to fit the caliper,so they can't change. If you're concerned, wander into a dealer sometime, and ask them to show you the floating discs that fit your model, then see what number they come up with. They should be able to show you it in the P&A catalogue,so you'll be able to clock the number. Hi Dave, Many thanks for taking the time to look up those disc details at 2 in the morning!! I have the 2011 P&A book and it gives the Classic Chrome part no. as 44822-00A for the same models that you describe - had a look this morning and that part no. is engraved on the disc. In my original post I asked "is the disc to large", I really meant too small - all the holes are not swept by the pads and the pads overlap the disc slightly. So the part number matches showing it to be the correct disc for my 2011 Dyna. Still not happy cause it doesn't look right, as the old saying goes : "If it's wrong, but looks right - it's right" but in this instance "It's right, but looks wrong - so it's wrong". John

John When I read your post I noticed my typo in my last post. My books also make it 44822-00,the "A" in your book means they did something in 2011,but it should still fit 2000 onwards. The pic looked like the pads were running inside the OD of the disc, which is correct,if you're saying the pads overlap the OD,then that's not correct in my opinion. You would end up with a step on the outside of the pads, which could catch on the disc, and stop the bulk of the pads contacting it. Looking at the pic I can see where my typo came from,I can see the number 44826-00.Are you saying 44822-00A is also on there? The number I can see in the pic also has Min Thk 5,2 mm,which makes me think it's the disc number. The odd thing is,I can't find 44826-00 in any database. Dave, My mistake - the number is indeed 44826-00 etched on the disc and no mention of that number anywhere in the 2011 P&A book. Re the pads looking as if they are running inside the disc. No they are not - that clear bit on the outside edge in the pic is a quite large chamfer, so some of the pad on the offside is touching fresh air and, as you say, will in time form a ridge. Can't go back to the dealer who fitted the disc as I have fallen out with them over an unconnected warranty issue - trading standards and all that c..p. To sum up then, it looks like the wrong disc but it can't be confirmed cause the disc has a phantom part no. Guess I'll have to live with it. If in the future you ever come across 44826-00, I would appreciate a post on the forum. Thanks again, John
