Road King battery

I'm going through every electrical connection on my Road King to waterproof them after getting caught in heavy rain last weekend. I realised that the battery is still the original one they fitted at the factory back in early 2003. I'm wondering just how long it's got left before it packs in without warning. It's well past it's time.

It's always been on an optimate charger whenever it's not being used, so this is probably why it's lasted so long. I plan on changing the battery soon with another Yuassa before it lets me down. It's been good, so I'll stay with that make. It still cranks the engine over nicely, but one day it might not.

Is the Electraglide battery more powerful than a Road King battery. If I'm going to change it, I want to put the most powerful one in that will fit that space.

Brian.

Re: Road King battery

I wasn't aware that that make had ever been fitted as OE,I thought they were branded HD,and made by the company that makes SVR batteries.

You can check specs for various models here,ie CCA and dimensions.

Re: Road King battery

I got the bike at 2 years old with only 240 miles on the clock....it hadn't been used, so I'm assuming it's the original battery.

If you're saying you got it from the first owner, with 240 miles on it,then I'd guess the battery was toast, and he put that on to sell it.
Mine was 9 years old with 3k miles,I asked for a new AGM battery as part of the deal.

Re: Road King battery

I bought it from BlackBear who I believe had it kicking around in the workshop and showroom for ages. They might have changed it if it was dead when they took it in after it hadn't been used regularly. I'm still going with that make because of the service it's given me.

I'll check out the Yuassa site and probably get one for an EG Ultra, they have a lot of electrics to power up.

Thanks for that link.

Brian.
