Sissy bar/rack for shortened frame?

Hi. I recently bought a 2005 FXDC Dyna, on which the rear fender struts have been shortened by about 60mm. This means the last hole for mounting the standard mudguard and sissy bar is no longer available.

I will sometimes want to fit a double seat, maybe a standard rear guard if necessary and a sissy bar/rack for 2-up riding with luggage to rallies, but I'm unsure yet if I can still fit a sissy bar. I've tried a friend's Dyna quick release sissybar but it won't work as it uses that missing mounting-hole. Can anyone tell me if there's a sissy bar/rack that fits just using the two mounting points I have?

Re: Sissy bar/rack for shortened frame?

You would need a pro to do it,but I would extend the rails back to standard length. If you were lucky, you might find some rails from a scrap frame,or have them made.I think the FXDCI had covers over the rails, which would tidy the repair up.Anything that was available in the way of a rack for that model, would rely on the full length rails for strength.By the time you've got a twin seat on there, any custom made rack strong enough to hang off the back, would be as ugly as an ugly thing.

Ta for the reply Dave.
Bugger, I was hoping I could maybe use these on eBay, just by not using the rearmost mounting hole..

I've thought of getting the rails extended but I'll only go down that route if totally necessary as I like the stripped-down look of the bike as it is and I won't be riding 2-up very often ( I hope! )

I don't really know much about sissy bars, not my thing, but doesn't it bolt onto the rear holes, the ones that would be hanging in fresh air?

They're not my thing either but it'd be good for my other half when she wants to come out with me. Some of them have an integral rack too, which we need for the tent.

I was just asking if there's one available that would fit my bike as it is? Or do all sissy bars/backrests use that last hole in the frame?

Dont want this to sound like a health and safety lecture but you haven't got the belt guards fitted.

Looks cool, but apart from keeping stones etc (and boots or clothing) out of the belt, the guards help to "feed" the belt straight out the back of the bike should it break. Could be nasty having a broken belt flailing about trying to wrap itself round your leg or jam itself into the moving parts.

Sermon over.
