Screamin Eagle Ignition Units & 95''

Anybody out there with a 95 inch build using a Screamin Eagle ignition or ignition/coil? I'll be going 95 inch and about 9.4:1 compression very shortly & I'm not sure if I need one or not. There are a few variations of them in the SE catalogue for different model bikes stating that they retard ignition by 5 degrees at wide open throttle - I don't go there very often ... Are they worth buying, is there that much improvement over the stock 88 inch unit or are they a neccessity when going to 95 inch?

I don't know much about the SE versions but I've got a Crane Hi-4 on mine which is adjustable and definitely makes a difference. Mine's got high comp pistons and was pinking a bit too regularly with the standard unit. With the Crane I've got rid of that almost completely.

Re: Screamin Eagle Ignition Units & 95''

Ive got one lying around doing nothing,
while I am running a 95" but running standard cams I didnt consider it a high enough compression set up to justify using this module, as you say it retards up to 5deg, I just frankly dont know wether it would be worth fitting? or wether it would damage anything or not.
the spec is very fluffy.
oh I did fit the coil which made a vast difference.

With that compression & the high octane petrol in the UK, I wouldn`t bother. In fact you are probably better with what you have got in this case.

Thanks for the replies .. Still a bit foggy on whether to go for it or not. What's the spec on your coil S.T.? Phild makes a good point regarding UK petrol - at least 95 octane so shouldn't be any pinking at 9.4:1 .. & Smallhog's Crane Hi-4 ignition sounds interesting too .. I actually bought a coil & ignition kit from Ebay but it's the one for 99-01 FL models as I found out too late .. Mine's an 03 FXST .. Any more info?

Save the money for a better carb, I live at 1500 feet & ride over the passes to Nevada & Lake Tahoe etc a lot so I run a 44mm CV. Makes a huge difference.

the coil I suspect in manufactured by axcel and I believe kicks 40,000v which seems to give a better response at the top end again the plugs being splitfires.
